Kellyanne Conway defends GOP gutting of ethics panel: Consumers have been filing too many complaintsTRAVIS GETTYS

Kellyanne Conway denied that House Republicans placing the congressional ethics watchdog under their control had violated Donald Trumps campaign promise to drain the swamp.
Conway, who ran Trumps campaign and now serves as a senior advisor, complained Tuesday morning on Today that the Office of Congressional Ethics had been overzealous in investigating consumer complaints since its creation in 2008.
If a constituent has a complaint, they can still lodge that complaint, Conway said. They just cant do it anonymously.
Conway said lawmakers and their staffers who had been investigated by the office complained that their right to due process had been violated, although she didnt offer additional explanation.

(65,044 posts)The lawmakers get to be anonymous. It's only the plebians who have to fear reprisal.
And, BTW: Overzealous! She's complaining about a governmental department too interested in doing their job???? Well, isn't that special.

(31,517 posts)The Office of Congressional Ethics acts pretty much as a screening panel to decide if issues should or should not be forwarded to the House Committee on Ethics. The OCE is an independent, non-partisan entity. Board members are private citizens, cannot work as lobbyists or be employed by the federal government and must agree not to run for federal office.
The House Committee on Ethics is comprised of House members and can only review complaints made by members of Congress, not the public.
This whole affair stinks to high heaven.
