Bill and Hillary Clinton Will Attend the Trump Inauguration

January 3, 2017
2:01 p.m.

Bill and Hillary Clinton have decided to attend the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States, according to two sources with knowledge of their plans. The Clintons will join former Presidents George W. Bush and Jimmy Carter, who have also announced that they will attend. George and Laura Bush said today that they would be present “to witness the peaceful transfer of power.”

Two well-placed sources tell New York that over the past few weeks Hillary Clinton discussed with trusted advisers and friends whether or not she should attend the inaugural. She and President Clinton, the sources said, decided to do so out of a sense of duty and respect for the American democratic process.

It's actually one of the responsibilities of being a member of one of the smallest and most elite clubs in the world.

It doesn't matter if you like or agree with the people who take your place in the future, if you're physically able, you come to show respect for the process and the office.

She and Bill are probably going just out of respect for Obama more than anything else.

It wold take more fortitude than I could muster to stand there and see a dangerous buffoon standing taking the oath of office--one he neither respects nor understands--in her stead.

I'll be nearby, but I refuse to cross the Potomac on that day.

I know it won't be easy for them, but I think this is the right decision.

I get why they're going. I just believe that he doesn't deserve even a little bit of respect from better people than he is.

I even include W among the "better people than him"...because I'm at least sure he's human, mostly.

Is not productive.

Saying he's not your President, he's not legitimate, shuts you out of any serious discussion about his policies and making sure he's reigned in to the fullest extent the constitution allows. It doesn't set the kind of example our party needs to set when standing in opposition.

we need to face facts here and that's a big one.

There. Will. Be. No. Limits.

Already the fact that he has enormous conflicts of interest has been brushed aside as a non-issue.

The fact that his businesses will profit from him being the president has been brushed aside.

Do you really think Ryan/McConnell etc. will ever reign in their shiny object? He's the thing that gives them cover for the worst things they can do to us.

It's traditional for past presidents to attend presidential inaugurations, so let Bill go by himself if he wants to go. Hillary should simply feign catching a bad cold and politely excuse herself from what will be one big ridiculous reality show. Why show that fucking scumbag any respect after he did nothing but lie about her and call her vicious names.

President Obama stated clearly that there would be an easy transition of power. Part of that is attending this event.

More than anything, I think they are going for PBO, and the future of America. If you can't say anything else nice about the Clintons, at least acknowledge they will always stand on the side of America, social justice, and economic justice.

She has my respect.

However, today with the proceedings that happened in Congress....THAT is where we act like Democrats, stand our ground, and fight with all our might.

It's not, and it never has been.

Our elections are crooked and our people oppressed.

Sure, millions of white guys had it good for a time, mostly thanks to strong unions and FDR, but even that is fading away.

Progress like rural electrification, the interstate highway system, the Apollo moon landing... we're told those types of projects are somehow impossible now. We can't have internet for everyone, a national health care system, free college and trade schools, all these things other nations have accomplished... why?

It's just fucking sad.

Your post makes the most sense to me out of the opinions posted about this. We need to burst the bubble of the delusion that the US is a democracy. We don't have one and to keep playing a long as though this was some kind of honorable election is shit!

Election corruption. This nation is wallowing in election corruption.
Purging voter rolls.
Voter ID.
Gerrymandering.
Closing polls.
Machines breaking down on election day.
The list goes on...

And find a way to be Canadian while their young. This country is a joke. This inauguration is a joke-pretending it's okay is a joke-Trump's people smear Hillary Clinton as a pedophile when he's probably the pedophile. This is gonna be the end for me. I'm probably done with politics. Oh and voting is a joke unless you love the FBI and Putin. This is another reason we will never win. Playing nice with Nazi's. Are they going to the second inaguration when there are camps and blacklists and they had destroyed health care and medicare and social security? This shit is fucking nuts. And everybody deep down knows I'm right you're just in some damn ass fantasy land denial if you think it's "classy" to share a stage with a predator liar insane man who wants to use nuclear weapons. This is why they don't vote for Dems-we believe in NOTHING. Peaceful transfer of power to an unfit madman. Is that really a thing to admire? Really? I don't think so.
