Of the 68 stores out of 730 in total, nine closings had been previously announced and three locations have already shut down. But the retail giant revealed the locations of the remaining 59 stores, which will be shuttered by the middle of this year and affect 3,900 employees, some of whom may be offered jobs at other locations.
Macy's identifies 68 stores that will close
The locations span the country, from Florida to Oregon.
Some of the stores are relatively new to the chain. The Macy's store in the Eastland center in Columbus, Ohio, opened in 2006, and has 73 employees. Some, however, are historic or have been around for decades. Macy's said it will shutter its store in downtown Minneapolis opened in 1902, where it has 280 employees.

(13,616 posts)when Macy's was trying to develop iits own name as a revived brand it did so by trying to make several brands exclusive to Macy's. One of them was Martha Stewart, the other was Donald Trump. Those silk ties made in Mexico? Macy's at one point was the exclusive seller..
Of course it also says a lot where Trump could not even save jobs in his home city, where his daughter cells her perfume..

(9,350 posts)I do not think the Trump fan boycott is the real problem for Macy's. It is likely they built and bought too many store over the years. They have been closing stores for years. At one point in my area they had two stores in one mall. They had another stand alone store just a few miles from the mall. Those three stores were not the only Macy's in my area. I do live in a big city, but even in a big city there is a chance that a company can have too many stores. It is possible that, in certain cities, even after Macy's closes three to five stores they will still have five or more stores in those cities.

(14,920 posts)all across the country, at a time when malls are folding and online shopping is increasing in popularity. However, since Trump tries to claim credit for things he did not do, I will happily blame him for sinking a chain he urged people to boycott!

(9,350 posts)Considering the media is more than willing to give him credit when a company announces they are bringing jobs back to America, or creating new jobs in America they should be more than willing to blame him when a company announces they are cutting jobs.
