Sally Field, Jeffrey Wright, Lea DeLaria and more stars have rallied together to urge Congress to challenge Donald Trump.
In a new video released by Humanity for Progress, the stars, along with a number of faith leaders and activists, ask Congress to oppose any racist, sexist, anti-immigrant, anti-union and/or anti-environmental policies the president-elect might try to pursue while in office.
In fact, they demand Congress vigorously oppose him and block nominees who threaten the rights of women, the LGBTQ community, people of color, immigrants and the poor.
As the cast, which also includes Steve Buscemi and Rookie founder Tavi Gevinson, notes at the beginning of the video, The majority of Americans, regardless of whom they voted for, did not vote for racism, for sexism or xenophobia.
The video, which was directed by Liz Garbus, ends with a call to action, encouraging viewers to share the video and use the hashtags #OBSTRUCT and #StandUpForUs. Viewers can also sign this petition.

(17,493 posts)In fact it might be possible that all the people asking Congress to "vigorously oppose" Trump before he has even taken over the White House might be hurting our party in the long run. It seems a lot of voters want to see Republicans and Democrats in Congress start working together for the good of the nation like they did a couple of decades ago.
If people were really impressed with who the Hollywood celebrities supported then Hillary would be inaugurated this month instead of Trump.

(51,308 posts)I like Sally Field, but these "celebrities" can take a flying leap for all I care.
Susan Sarandon etc. They are all nobodies except for the fact they are famous.
I certainly don't care who they support, and I seriously doubt any Shitgibbon voter cares either.

(7,358 posts)They are not just actors etc. They're American citizens who want to use what ever resources at their disposal to stop Trump and his thugs from throwing us back into the dark ages. If that entails using name recognition and fame, so be it.
What, may I ask are any of you doing to fight? Because you are the ones who are 'nobody'. Get on your phones to your Representatives and Senators.
