The winds tonight are incredible. And I'm in New York...

Hurricane Irene, there are areas still recovering. But we're used to rough winters, have plows and sanders and the power company is prepared for these things. It's those in parts of the country that's not used to winter weather that I really worry about.

They grew up in Denver, now live in Castle Rock, Englewood and Evergreen. And I agree, your weather is tougher to deal with than anything we regularly experience. Though we did have a terrible blizzard back in October that shut everything down because nobody was prepared. But this is something you probably go though pretty frequently...

then one last thursday that caused a lot of inconvenience. on the other hand, these things don't last long. I tell people that we have a very high-tech snow removal system here--it is called "the sun".

I have another cousin who moved to NC, went to school there and stayed. She's an RN at a major hospital, labor and delivery, but when it snows there, everything stops. I asked her what they do and she said "we wait for it to melt..."

Back in October, I was shocked to see snow, but I expected that the main roads were okay. Little did I know, traffic was practically stopped everywhere, heard later there was a fender bender on the main street. It took me a full half hour to get to the store and then on the way home I thought it looked dark, turns out the traffic lights were out - along with everything else. It took awhile to recover since there were still leaves on the trees and the ground wasn't frozen yet. But that was the exception - until last night. I kept expecting to see Margaret Hamilton flying by....

I missed the end of the president's speech and I can hear the cat jumping down from somewhere, but I can't see him...
