I googled, but only got a link to the Teapot Dome Scandal. Trump's problems are more along the lines of the Pee Pot Dome.

4. Even assuming it was a 4chan lulz... why would we believe them when they confessed?
Wed Jan 11, 2017, 01:34 PM
Jan 2017

Everyone knows that 4chan is a sink of lies and infamy. Nothing there is trustworthy. Including taking credit for something.

See, if a community builds its reputation on being the internet watering hole for jackasses, asshats, douche canoes and slime, then that reputation wins and nobody gets to say, "but this time we're telling the truth!"

Somebody should have read them the story, The Little Shitstains Who Cried Wolf when they were gnawing on their cribs.

5. yeah, the 4chan thing

was a single solitary post dated well after the dossier was known (Nov 1st). David Corn at MoJo published a story on the dossier before the 4chan post appeared.

People will take anything offered as "proof" if they want to believe it. For example, the fools who thought Cohen's picture of the outside of his passport was proof he had never been to Ukraine.

That's the funny thing about ego defense mechanisms... it always boils down to "I'm right because reasons". There is no actual argument. The vast majority of people don't want to admit that they were fooled- it's what con artists and cults rely on.

8. The MSM is running about 50/50 on the dossier
Wed Jan 11, 2017, 01:53 PM
Jan 2017

The easiest way to tell is if they are publishing the dossier or parts of it, they believe it is real. Apparently they all had it and did not think much of it. Then the CIA vetted it and briefed Obama. Then Buzzfeed and Slate jumped in, based on we don't know if it is real, let the people clicking on our sites decide. Which is the fake news approach. CNN legitimized the story. That really was the moment the story came alive. Then it was everywhere.

10. Yeah, that was all over Reddit last night.

I was following their Megathread about the matter. Suddenly about a billion users began promoting the 4chan version of the story, all at once. Meanwhile, Trump and Conway both had different responses to the matter, neither of which fit the 4chan narrative.

Whatever was going on, the disruption worked. I came away confused about what was happening. It sort of looks like there were two separate leaks under discussion last night, with the first one being legitimate and the second one being distraction intended to discredit the first. But it's really rather hard to say.

The "4chan trolled the CIA!" narrative is also confused. Supposedly all the urination stuff originated at 4chan, was passed along (somehow) to the intelligence community, and MI6 and the CIA were completely fooled. But another version of the same idea suggested that the 35 page document was created by 4chan, and you could tell because they kept changing the fonts used in the documents, which supposedly no real agency or operative would do.

The idea that all the pee stuff was fake but something else was true at least seems to make some sense. The public perception of the whole thing seems fixed on the sensationalism and/or squick of the urination business, with the Russia collaboration being lost in the shuffle. If anyone wanted to distract from a real issue, that would be a good way to do it.

but the rest of it? It's just not starting to come to light and it's taking off.

Hell. Trump's own words at this point are enough to nail him.

i dont think mere prurient behavior makes for blackmail against the president of the united states.

i think the girls were just that- girls. i also think, since it has been emphasized that it is video AND audio, that he was every bit the prick that jane doe said he was.

13. Easy for someone like Bannon or Roger Stone to "immunize" the Pee Party ex post facto
Wed Jan 11, 2017, 10:32 PM
Jan 2017

… by getting someone to "cook up a rumor about a Pee Party" on 4chan weeks, months, more than a year later, after they become aware the intel is out there…

Remember, we're talking Bannon and Stone.
