Mitt Romney was raised to believe that if Mitt Romney is elected president, Mitt Romney will rule the world (or whatever is left of it) as the Mormon gods Viceroy, while Jesus Christ stumbles through tornado country, making crop circles in a corn field, or whatever it is you do there.
If you dont believe me, its because you dont know the operating software system Romney runs on. A slow and stupid operating system, sure, but it may soon be hooked up to about 5,000 nuclear warheads and a global empire, so ignoring it wont save you.
I know, I know. We're not supposed to bring his religion into the "serious" discussions.. But at what cost?

Apocalypses are bad for business. None of this horseshit about prophecy will take place. But America is gonna get screwed anyway, likely by eliminating as many environmental regs as possible, eliminating as much of the safety net as possible, and putting in as many Repub judges in as possible. So that we never again get the possibility of electing a Democrat to the Presidency.
Oh, and probably a protracted war with Iran.

(17,493 posts)is to be elected President.
He will do anything and everything he can to achieve that goal. He is more than willing to change his previous views on any issue if he feels it will benefit him in the upcoming election. He is not just a waffler, he is a shape shifter.
When he became governor of Massachusetts he described himself as a moderate Republican.
Why Do Reporters Think Mitt Romney Is a Moderate?
Paul Waldman
April 4, 2012
I'm sorry, but I refuse to let this one go, even if I have to repeat myself. Time's Alex Altman writes, "A very conservative party is on the verge of nominating a relative moderate whom nobody is very excited about, largely because none of his rivals managed to cobble together a professional operation." I beg you, Alex, and every other reporter covering the campaign: If you're going to assert that Mitt Romney is a "relative moderate," you have to give us some evidence for that assertion. Because without mind-reading, we have to way to know whether it's true.
What we do know is that when he ran in two races in the extremely liberal state of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney was a moderate. Then when he ran in two races to be the Republican nominee for president, Mitt Romney was and is extremely conservative. There is simply no reasonnoneto believe, let alone to assert as though it were an undisputed fact, that the first incarnation of Romney was the "real" one and the current incarnation of Romney is the fake one....emphasis added
Every single issue position that might mark Mitt Romney as a "relative moderate" is something he has cast off, whether it's being pro-choice, or pro-gay rights, or not hating on immigrants. If you're going to say he's a relative moderate, you have to explain how the Massachusetts Romney was an expression of his true beliefs, and the national Romney is the product of cynical calculation, and how you know this to be the case.

A Quantum Theory of Mitt Romney
By DAVID JAVERBAUM
Published: March 31, 2012
THE recent remark by Mitt Romneys senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom that upon clinching the Republican nomination Mr. Romney could change his political views like an Etch A Sketch has already become notorious. The comment seemed all too apt, an apparent admission by a campaign insider of two widely held suspicions about Mitt Romney: that he is a) utterly devoid of any ideological convictions and b) filled with aluminum powder.
***snip***
What does all this bode for the general election? By this point it wont surprise you to learn the answer is, We dont know. Because according to the latest theories, the Mitt Romney who seems poised to be the Republican nominee is but one of countless Mitt Romneys, each occupying his own cosmos, each supporting a different platform, each being compared to a different beloved childrens toy but all of them equally real, all of them equally valid and all of them running for president at the same time, in their own alternative Romnealities, somewhere in the vast Romniverse.

It is unfortunate that the Republicans had to chose the best choice of a Presidential candidate in the primaries with a very weak field. Romney was their best choice considering the alternatives.
If the ecomony shows signs of true improvement prior to the election, Obama should win easily. Unfortunately the Republicans are opposed to any measures to improve the jobs issue and the European Union is on the verge of collapse which will have a negative effect on the U.S economy.
If Romney is elected I fear for our future. I have no idea of what his true views are but I suspect that they would benefit the ruling 1% far more than the middle class and the poor. The scary possibly is that the economy might recover during his first administration and he might well win a second term. The Great Recession has to eventually end and if it does Romney will claim credit.
