His first week a catastrophe, the next 4 years will be like this, and that's actually great news.

He-who-shall-not-be-named makes a declaration how he wants things to be.
The public punches back that things are not like that at all.
He-who-shall-not-be-named doubles down.
The public doesn't cave.
He-who-shall-not-be-named triples down...
Andsoforth. Much ado about nothing and nothing achieved but precious time wasted.

AND THAT'S FANTASTIC.

Just estimate how much time and energy and political coin the Trump-administration wasted on trivialities in this week alone:
A sizable chunk of the time they worried about his crowd-numbers.
Major press-conferences wasted talking about his crowd-numbers.
Valuable political coin in building good relations with the CIA, wasted by lecturing them on stuff that offends them: his crowd-numbers.

And now imagine a President Trump who is not easily distracted and easily vexed and easily slighted and easily lured into random fights.
Imagine a President Trump who has the gravitas to ignore all these distractions and the focus to ram through his arch-conservative political doctrine.

Imagine, the Democrats could run down the clock just like this for the next 4 years. Distraction after distraction after distraction for President Trump, eating up his time, his brain-power, his concentration to keep him from doing actual political stuff.

But I am really doubting he can make it 4 years! Maybe that's just wishful thinking but I think his ego and thin skin won't make it!

for all the fear and loathing of donnie, it's congress who will bring most of the pain. and all donnie has to do is sign whatever they put in front of him.

in fact, even in terms of the executive branch, his minions will similarly do a lot of damage themselves.

we're rather used to divided government and gridlock. i don't think people realize how different it is when one party controls all three branches of government. in a divided government, yeah, the president and his team needs a coherent message and focus in order to gain the bipartisan support to accomplish much of anything. but with republicans in nearly complete control, they can wreak havoc no matter how disorganized they are. in fact, being disorganized makes it easier to wreak havoc.

our only real hope is a very aggressive use of the filibuster.

that he is already working to establish a shadow cabinet that will do his bidding unlike the official one, members of which contradicted his policy positions throughout the confirmation hearings.

If true, massive infighting within administration and between them and legislative branch could result.

But this is the beginning of something historically serious and Is not a game. Trump is not alone. The darkest side of conservatism has taken control of our country.

The aim of these people is to eliminate Democracy and become an authoritarian state. They will use all their power to insure that all future elections will be shams so there will be no possibility of removing them. The only way to prevent this is a serious and possibly violent revolt. We are living real history right now and it won't be fun.

One of Hitler's major campaign talking-points was that the parliament was useless, a place of empty chit-chat with politicians disconnected from what the people REALLY want. "Quasselbude". (roughly translated as "gabbing hut&quot

But worry not, my dear citizens. There is this cabal of people who despise democratic elections and who consider them useless as well. They don't need democratic elections or polls or petitions to be told what the people want. Because they already know what the people really want. They know it in their heart. They just do. What they want is what the people actually want, even if they don't say so. Just trust them on this, okay?
