List of Universities that are profitting by broadcasting sports on Hate Radio

Thanks to a DUer who compiled this data. This is a list by state of the Universities and the number of Hate Radio stations they broadcast their Division 1 Sports on.

I don't know how we can use this, but this is important. Basically, we have our institutions of higher learning broadcasting their major sports games on radio stations that spend the other 165 hours a week broadcasting nothing but Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage and other "cookie-cutter" wingnuts.

Just the other day, Limbaugh called the women marchers "stupid twats".

Does Ohio State agree with him?
How about UCLA, the University of Norte Dame, Wisconsin, USC...etc,.

Just imagine; "join us Saturday when Ohio State takes on Michigan...on Monday we'll have Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, Alex Jones and "the Black Avenger".

I think one of two things need to happen.

- Either these universities deny renewal broadcasting rights to those stations that promote hatred, or
- Those stations remove the haters from their stations.

Want to send a powerful message? Take football away from Hate Radio, or take the universities money from those radio stations.
Any progressive who doesn't think that this is now War for the survival of our Democracy hasn't been paying attention.

Guess I assumed that a Progressive wouldn't listen to College Sports on a radio station that also broadcasts Limbaugh, etc.,

I don't watch NFC games because they are broadcast on Fox Sports. If Fox wants my viewership, maybe they could actually be "fair and balanced".

Now that I have been properly chastised and corrected, can we talk about how you can track the ascendency of conservative power in this country from the beginning of Hate Radio?

This is a way we can combat it's influence.

Just listen to Hannity on election day one time.

"we need more people over in District 3 in North Carolina", "we need to get some folks over to District 6 in Ohio"...

We had 5 million people march on Saturday. At the same time, we had 2000 Radio Stations ignoring them, or making fun of them.

We have to fight back!

by these games support the hate content on the station involved? I'm pretty sure the answer is "yes".

I hope someone knowledgeable in this area would direct us on how/who to effectively lobby to break up these relationships.

All that "we don't advertise during that time slot" and, "the views of the host don't reflect the views of W___" is nothing but horsecrap!

Money generated by these universities sports programs goes directly to Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage and the rest of those nutbags.

Universities? Sponsors? What existing organizations might be appropriate and willing to take this on?

would be a start. They have the most to lose. Hell, we've been boycotting Limbaugh's sponsors for years with little effect.

Universities have quite a bit to lose. How many of them use grants from the EPA and other government department to fund critical research. They do that, and all the while, they're financially supporting radio stations that want to destroy...not only those grants, but the universities themselves.

I imagine it's rather prestigious for a radio station to claim; "We are the home of The Ohio State Buckeyes". Take that prestige, and all the money that goes with it away.

Big Blue cities went for Democrats by 60-70-80% in some cases. Yet, in those cities, the most powerful and influential radio station broadcast nothing but hate filled wingnuts. Why aren't folks blocking the entrances of their studios? Why aren't we demanding they represent the views of the city they make their living in.

and I know 0 about sports of any kind, and care even less, but I do hate hate radio.

Someone would have to compile a list of the radio stations affiliated with each University sports program. Is such a list available from the OP link or elsewhere?

Then someone would have to organize a group or identify an existing group that would be interested starting a letter-writing campaign and identifying other vulnerable links in the sport-university-radio station- hatemonger chain.

Anyone interested?

and it's not so simple. In that case, the university has a 10 year contract with an outside firm who sells the broadcast rights; and another contract with the conference over some shared media revenue.

The university administration does not make decisions on a regular basis with individual radio/TV stations or even networks - those are essentially up to the contractor to get the most coverage and money as they can for athletic events. In this case, the contractor also sells tickets, manages events other than games (like concerts, truck rallies, etc.).

Of course, the university can hire a different media contractor, but with the Board of Trustees appointed by Rick Scott, who is one of the worst crooks that the Tea Party has ever produced...well, it's unlikely the BOT will approve a progressive vendor (if one even exists).

In short, I'm not surprised that in Florida, all the flagship schools do their local broadcasting on RW networks.

from responsibility for choosing a medium on which their games are played. Still, deals like these have been broken up before, but someone with knowledge in the field would have to come up with a plan.
