Trump lover shoots man in stomach at protest

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/jan/25/shooting-milo-yiannopoulos-speech-seattle-charges?CMP=twt_gu

The victim of a politically charged shooting at a public speech by Milo Yiannopoulos in Seattle is calling for dialogue and “restorative justice” rather than criminal charges.

The victim, whose attorney asked that he not be identified by name, was shot in the stomach while protesting at a speech by the rightwing provocateur at the University of Washington on Friday night. He remains in the hospital and has undergone multiple surgeries, his attorney, Sarah Lippek, said on Tuesday.

The shooter was a Trump supporter who sent a Facebook message to Yiannopoulos asking for an autograph while waiting in line for the controversial event, according to the Seattle Times.

The shooter turned himself into University of Washington police on Friday night but was released “in consultation with the prosecuting attorney’s office” and “pending further investigation”, according to police.

But our side wants no charges. And so it begins. Sooner or later they will kill protesters.

It is one person, the actual victim of the shooting that is not interested in pressing charges. While I disagree and think that charges should be filed, I would not characterize it as "our side" not wanting charges. I am sure that there are a lot of others who want the shooter prosecuted. The story itself stated that people were upset that the shooter was released and accusing the police and courts of bias.

I am angry at being peaceful with Nazi's. Not a good you know-time in history for me. And why the fuck wasn't this on the top of the news? ???????????????????

Like I said, I would not have been so forgiving. People think that lefties are pacifists, but it just takes more to get us riled up. Once we are however, we can be pretty rough.

or that the victim can make that call. Shooting someone is a criminal offense, not a civil one.

However, the victim cannot usually be compelled to testify and so if the people's case rests on the victim's testimony, then there will be a problem fully prosecuting the case.

It's a violent felony.

The reason that they let him go likely relates to where they are in the investigation. If a clock starts in which time they need to take it to a grand jury, they usually want to have the evidence to indict him, beyond a confession alone. (Plus, he turned himself in to the university's police according to the article.) They need to investigate first.
