I thought coronation day was the worst, but I was wrong.

Since the ascendency of the new US dictator - and let us be clear: he is a dictator. There is no other term for him. He will not govern by law or the legislature or any of the norms of society or what is now our shredded Constitution. His actions have shown everyone, except those suffering from extreme cognitive dissonance, exactly how he intends to rule. And he intends to rule. Not govern. Rule. He and his followers and enablers are happy to wear their racism, homophobia, misogyny, and complete greed, out were we all can see it. They don’t really care about anything but their own welfare to the exclusion of anyone that they see as ‘unworthy’. And who do they see as unworthy? Easy answer there: Anyone who is different than they are. Anyone who has the misfortune to have lost a job. Anyone who isn’t a white, male, landowning, Christian heterosexual. And they don’t care about the people who actually voted for them, who have been swindled.

Oh, and some of those who voted for this and him, are going to be more than happy to join Trump’s version of the Stasi, to join what will undoubtedly be his Red Hat brigade, just as many ‘good Germans’ and ‘good Italians’ were willing to join Hitler’s Brownshirts and Mussolini’s Blackshirts. I’m not even going to talk about the Russians, because they have been used to serfdom and czars and dictators for longer than we’ve had a republic.

Robert Reich, Dan Rather, Elisabeth Warren, and others on the left hold out hope that the legislative machinery that America has will protect us, but I fear that they have underestimated the machine that the Republicans have put in place to protect the power that they have legally, albeit unethically and immorally, acquired. And apart from protesting in the streets, there is damn all that we can do. The White House phone line? Shut down. Republican Senators and Congressmen’s comment lines? Ignored or shut down. So, there’s that. They aren’t going to listen. And it would appear that many of our Democratic representatives in Congress are rolling over for this, happy to pick up the scraps.

Any suggestions? Any ideas? Any way to escape the nightmare of state surveillance, travel restriction, and asset confiscation that is sure to come? Anyone?

We are done without a real uprising in this country.

...and the signs, to be polite, aren't good. The Dems, indeed, seem to be normalizing this. There are other signs, thank God, that the American people are not. But what Trump, his minions, and the GOP, intend is already becoming clear. Was Germany a dictatorship on February 5, 1933? Not yet. But it was coming. And I no longer think this analogy is all that far-fetched. This man is a psychopath. Anything is possible.
