Chief of Border Patrol out a day after trump's wall decree

http://jacksonville.com/news/2017-01-26/border-patrol-chief-out-day-after-trump-border-fence-decree

WASHINGTON — The chief of the Border Patrol has left the agency that’s in charge of securing America’s borders with Mexico and Canada.

According to a U.S. official and a former official, Border Patrol agents have been told that Mark Morgan is no longer on the job. It’s not immediately clear whether Morgan resigned or was asked to leave.

The U.S. official wasn’t authorized to discuss the move before a public announcement and spoke on condition of anonymity. The former official asked not to be identified before a government announcement.

I read the Post story on the State Department resignations, and Trump's supporters are positively giddy about it. I wonder how happy they will be when the shit hits the fan, and Trump's replacement appointees aren't up to the task?

Morgan leaves office only seven months after being named the first outsider to lead the agency since it was founded in 1924.

Mark Morgan Named Chief of the US Border Patrol

Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske earlier today announced Mark Morgan as the new Chief of the United States Border Patrol. Chief Morgan is a 20-year veteran of the FBI and has held positions in local law enforcement as well. While we are disappointed that Commissioner Kerlikowske chose to break with 92 years of tradition and pass over several highly qualified candidates from within the Border Patrol, we look forward to working with Chief Morgan on the important issues and policies affecting the United States Border Patrol.

We would ask Chief Morgan to remember that the men and women working on the border everyday are the real experts in border security, and that it would behoove him to hear and act upon their concerns and suggestions. This is an agency with a long tradition of service and a commitment to its mission that has few parallels. The Border Patrol has a unique mission that is reflected in its culture and we realize it will be difficult for an outsider to quickly gain the trust and respect of his subordinates. We hope that Chief Morgan will quickly overcome this hurdle and develop a good working relationship with both the senior leadership and the rank and file of the US Border Patrol. It can be done but it will depend upon the deeds of Chief Morgan, not his words.

The Border Patrol union was not happy with his appointment.

I wonder whether Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske has left the building too?
