Am I the only one that thinks this is fucked up?

(96,793 posts)Teachers are notorious for NOT calling in sick when they should. Once when something nasty was going around school, the principal called an emergency staff meeting and said "You have insurance! For heavens sake, if you're sick, go to the doctor." One of the teachers wanted to file a grievance against her - for telling us to go to the doctor if we were sick. LOL

(19,339 posts)missed. This happens at Mr. Brickbat's work. If you call in sick for a day -- such as if you have seasonal allergies, have started your OTC meds and want to take 12 hours to recover from the sleepiness -- they want a doctor's note. WTF?

(2,243 posts)You can be out for one day w/o being sick enough that you ought to be under medical care, but 2 days starts pushing that.

(2,104 posts)I've never gotten a note but found my insurance doesn't seem to cover one, I'd still have to pay the office visit assuming no tests that were not covered were performed by the doctor and I *think* if I just came in and asked for a note the doctor could charge me.
In looking into this I also found that the doctor isn't supposed to write you a note if you are seen after you get better or are then 'fit' for work. So I'm not well enough to go to work and work but I'm supposed to be well enough to either drive myself to the doctor's office and wait to be seen. OR I can call a cab, wait upwards of 1/2 hour after several calls to get them to show up, pay for that then wait to be seen at the doctor's office then repeat the cab BS to get home.
As I said I don't know for sure not having ever done it but it seemed pretty clear to me I would be on the hook for $50-100+ to get a doctor's note with insurance. In addition to making an appointment and hanging out in a doctor's office while I'm sick for several hours.

(6,163 posts)No insurance.
If you bring in a drs note, it is not counted against you, but you still don't get paid.
Occurrences accrue and after a certain amount, you get terminated.

(3,363 posts)First, she is only covered by health insurance because of OBAMACARE (as it is known).
She works part-time, and receives ZERO benefits, and recently she became sick and called out. The manager told her a doctor note was appreciated. When I tell you she NEVER missed a day before that, I'm not exaggerating. Anyway, it cost us $30-40 for the doctor visit. She needed it anyway, because she has Strep throat, but... it was insulting.

(21,046 posts)I am past menopause, but I was always out of commission for two to four days a month, every twenty eight days, due to horrendous cramps. Nothing helped, including surgery for endometriosis, BC pills, etc.
So are you supposed to get a doctor's note for menstruating, a normal bodily function?
I am in favor of menstrual huts where we can sleep when we feel bad during that time, and not have to go to work.
Of course corporate America refuses to recognize any human needs, whether they be for food, sleep, bathroom breaks, or anything else.
