A 20% import tax amounts to a massive tax hike on middle and lower class Americans

So much of our produce, of our food in general comes from Mexico. Although trump wouldn't know that, since he's probably never set foot inside a grocery store.

Make him own this.

who think Mexico is a wasteland and that we only get criminals and drugs from there. In fact it's our third-largest goods trading partner! The United States had $270.7 billion worth of imports from Mexico in 2016.

Most of the produce in my local supermarkets come from Mexico, a lot of brand name beers, wines and alcoholic beverages, too. I looked in my pantry to find that many staples, rice, beans, canned goods, and chocolate, and all kinds of popular Mexican food items, shoes, clothing, bedding, furniture and appliances would cost me 20% more. There are hundreds of other consumer products and manufacturing components that would affect household shoppers and businesses.

I just listened to a Republican Collins bragging this tariff plan that would only apply to goods sold in the US, but not to goods purchased by businesses to be exported out of the country. He was practically wee-weeing all over himself at how rich businesses would become by eliminating competition with Mexican products and upping their prices on products they import. He never said a word about how that cost in going to hurt every consumer in the country. Republicans don't give a damn about the real people who will be paying for their profits.
