He recalled another staged stunt, the fireman story, that happened around the same year during the Christmas season. As holiday business picked up, Shaw kept the store open until 9:00 p.m. during the week, he said, and routinely received truck shipments around closing time.
So when he heard a loud banging on the metal delivery door in the back of the shop as he was preparing to lock the front door, he thought it was just another late-night delivery.
But when Shaw opened the door, he explained, he suddenly stood face-to-face with Mitt Romney in full Bloomfield Township firemans regalia.
He had on the waterproof cape, the fire helmet, and he was carrying a bona fide fire ax, Shaw told TheDC, and barged into the store screaming, Wheres the fire? Wheres the fire?

(6,440 posts)A show I remember from my childhood. From Wikipedia:
Mr Benn is a character created by David McKee who appears in several children's books, and an animated television series of the same name transmitted by the BBC in 1971 and 1972. Whether in a book, or on television, Mr Benn's adventures take on a similar pattern. Mr Benn, a man wearing a black suit and bowler hat, leaves his house at 52 Festive Road and visits a fancy-dress costume shop where he is invited by the moustachioed, fez-wearing shopkeeper to try on a particular outfit. He leaves the shop through a magic door at the back of the changing room and enters a world appropriate to his costume, where he has an adventure (which usually contains a moral) before the shopkeeper reappears to lead him back to the changing room, and the story comes to an end. Mr Benn returns to his normal life, but is left with a small souvenir of his magical adventure. Additionally, scenes before and after his adventure usually have some connection to it, such as the games the children are playing in the street as he passes.

(35,688 posts)I was thinking about another person I know who opines for another occupation.
In this case, the person is a psychiatrist. Well, who listens to psychiatrists? They listen to everybody else all day long, so the only person left to listen is their wife or their girlfriend.
In this case, my psychiatrist significant other just loved to talk about all these different occupations he could have. One of his faves was "shoe salesman." No he wasn't a foot fetishist. He just thought he could be really good shoe salesman. I regarded it as the imaginative part of his empathizer self.
So it makes me wonder if Mitt, who we all surmise is probably a psychopath incapable of empathizing with other living beings, was thwarted in his maturation process--the part when most humans learn a modicum of empathy.
Mitt just got the "costume" part and never went on for the rest.
Just a little armchair psychiatry here.

Pretending to be a gangster and staging fake hold-ups of stores, pointing a fake machine gun at store owners and yelling "this is a stick up" could get him killed. If trigger-happy George Zimmerman had owned one of the stores that Romney pranked we might be discussing some other weirdo Republican candidate for President. I think there might be jurisdictions where what Romney did, even in jest, may have been illegal. I don't think you can barge into a bank, for example, and say "stick 'em up" even if it's a fake bank hold up.
And this is more evidence of Romney's violent side. We know he assaulted a student with scissors. He likes to push people's faces into plates of food. And according to the shop owner describing this latest Romney prank, he shoved his way through customers as he entered the store.

(19,458 posts)..these stories get weirder and weirder!! Poor little Richie Rich, has to play at REAL jobs to get his thrills.
Wow.. these things are just disturbing.
On edit: the comments on the story on daily caller are equally disturbing. Love the rightwingers that post that it's no big deal because they, themselves, used to play "cops and robbers and firemen all the time" Really? Did they play that when they were old enough to DRIVE?? And did they use Trooper uniforms to pull people over???
SOunds like Romney's Dad knew of Romney's uniform fetish, and supplied him with uniforms. Seriously.. he is a sick, sick, person. It's not ONE thing that makes him messed up, it's a PATTERN. The assault on the long haired student at school, the dressing up like a fireman, dressing like a State Trooper in COLLEGE, pushing his kid and grandkids faces down into butter and whipped cream, tying his dog onto the car roof, etc. etc. etc. It's the collection of things that make up someone's character.

update
Mitt dressed up as a fireman to scare people and think the building they were in was on fire.
Ann Romney, her vet, and her trainer doped up a show horse who was lame in order to con
some buyer out of his or her money ..... $125,000 ..... when she was worth @ least $50 million.
These people are fucking freaks! When will the police find latex gloves and tie down straps as
part of Mitt's "fun bag?"
aint_no_life_nowhere
(21,925 posts)and shoving people aside as he made is way with a fake machine gun? That's in the linked story above. I'm astonished that almost no one commented on that behavior in this thread and that people are paying more attention to the fireman dress up. The fact he wanted to play gangster and pretend to strafe the people in a store is something he should have grown out of at age 10.

The dressing up as a cop in a highway patrolman's uniform and making
real life traffic stops pegs my creep-O meter. But I will add his gangster
act to my list of his actions.
BTW How much did we hear about Bill Ayers and Rev. Wright but outside
of the article about his school day bullying these really disturbing actions
have gotten zero press in the national (liberal ) media.
