Dem senator hits colleagues silent on Trump's refugee ban
By Brooke Seipel - 01/27/17 11:05 PM EST

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) hit fellow lawmakers on Twitter Friday night, condemning those who don't speak up in opposition of Trump's new policy that will ban Syrian refugees.

"To my colleagues: don't ever again lecture me on American moral leadership if you chose to be silent today," Murphy tweeted alongside the famous photo of Alan Kurdi, the 3-year-old Syrian boy who drowned while fleeing with his family.

Earlier in the day, Murphy slammed the policy in a Huffington post op-ed.

“Trump has now handed ISIS a path to rebirth,” Murphy said the post. "They can and will use his announcement today as confirmation that America is at war with Muslims, especially those Muslims living in desperate circumstances.

“Their recruitment bulletin boards will light up with new material. Their entreaties to would-be lone wolf attackers in America will have new energy and purpose,” he added.

“All the work we have done to cut down on extremist recruitment at home and abroad now goes out the window. It’s a new day for terrorist recruiters.”

Trump’s order indefinitely bans Syrian refugees from coming to the U.S., and puts a 120-day halt on the refugee program at large.

It also temporarily suspends U.S. entry from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Sudan and Yemen. All seven nations appear on a handful of government lists designating sponsors of terrorism and "countries of concern."

Doesn't matter who you are, or how rapidly your patriotic little heart goes pitty-pat for our dear leader. Eventually, they will come for you.

As Democrat Senate Leader. He has no reason to oppose this particular Trump directive or directives on Wall Street. so, he won't oppose it or rally other Democrats to oppose it. I am surprised that Murphy has the moral compass to oppose the directive since doing so gains him nothing but being true to his humanitarian values.
