Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThis is the best first week for Trump we could have hoped for. Yes, best.
In your wildest dreams did you think he would be this flat footed? He would have spent his first week talking about crowd size? That his new White House would leak like a sieve? That he would hold signing ceremonies for executive orders that are illegal or are being laughed at by everyone?
Did you think the GOP would be ready to hang him or themselves at day 7? That all of your apolitical friends would end up activists against the idiot? That he would misspell the British PMs name, or have Mexico order him to stop talking about the damned wall? Or that he really has NO way to pay for the wall and no EO can help him? Or that the GOP and the whole damned country would be defending ObamaCare?
Honestly, he is a joke, he made himself a joke, and the whole country knows it and the GOP knows if it goes along with him they will be laughing stocks too?
We all knew he was nuts but in the back of my mind I thought he'd hide it long enough to screw us over royally. But never in a thousand years did I think he would flub it so bad on day on. I know, its hard to imagine it will be this good going forward but maybe it will. They have never been able to tame him for long. His BS act just does not play on a world stage. He's going to have to spend a lot of time and energy just to get back to square one, if he can.

By the way, notice I referred to Godzilla as a "he". Do we really know what gender Godzilla was? Did anyone actually ever check?

(17,006 posts)They are learning that it isn't a character, it is the real deal. He really is that completely clueless to the responsibilities that go with being the president. He really is that unable to focus on anything long enough to develop any depth of understanding for what he is should be trying to understand. He really is that consumed with being the center of attention and that petty to lash out at any and all who do not give him the attention he believes he is due. He is all we desperately hoped he was not.

For instance just take a gander at the loons he has surrounded himself with. Haven't heard much from that dysfunctional family of his this week, wonder why. I'm sure they're all on suicide watch

Looking at the situation through reasonable glasses, you're right but I'm still not sure reason and reality are effective weapons anymore.
He is restaffing everything with imbeciles and this could be the new standard.
And soon he will be deciding SCOTUS candidates and that's not a joke.
Unless his policies actually create extreme pain within the US I don't think his insanity will be checked.
It's also a great distracting screen that the GOP can use to camouflage their agenda.
Breathtaking incompetence may well be accepted as the norm by those who could actually do something about it.

(15,412 posts)which is why it worked during the election. It is the same 27% crazification factor we've seen for years and this time they voted for Trump. Problem is, now he has to play on a world stage. Anyone who is not crazy looks at him and freaks out.
He is hurting the GOP in congress and their dreams of drowning the gov't in the bathtub. I'm holding my breath on this, but so far the press has been doing a decent job. The editorial cartoons are brutal IN THE FIRST WEEK! His approval is down to 36% IN THE FIRST WEEK. All of the shit he has "done" so far is going nowhere. His executive orders are a joke. Compare them to Obama's EO on Dreamers or DACA. All Obama did in those orders is tell his agency to arrest and deport others and leave the dreamers and DACA alone. That is clearly within the executive power, setting priorities within government happens all the time. Obama set priorities. Now look at Trump stopping funding for ads running to sign people up for ObamaCare. He probably has the power to do that but he backed down the very next day because of all the pressure he got. And the humiliation over the wall, agreeing not to bring it up again? Sheesh, it was his brand, now he's been silenced by "a Mexican". Finally, look at the British PM. She leaves telling the world that Donald assured her he loves NATO on the same day Trump says he's not going to rescind the sanctions on Russia.
I think Japan agreeing to meet with China for the first time in forever because they know Trump is unreasonable and the PLO begging Russia to save them from Trump should have scared the shit out of a lot of people. Trump goes down this road and we are no longer the superpower. China and Russia (and maybe Mexico?) will be in the hunt. If the GOP is willing to sell all that to get tax cuts for the rich, they are worse than even I thought and I thought they were the scum of the earth. They know that getting a tax cut at the expense of the power and prestigue we would lose is too high a price. They are scared shitless to move in any direction.
But what surprises me the most is the leaks. They are coming from everywhere. Even the White House janitor must be leaking because he is freaked out.

(269,024 posts)He demonstrated that Groper Don the Con is 'little Donald'. Showed how he backed down from Mexico paying for the wall; ate crow re torture and could not remove the sanctions against Russia - all based on his and the other idiots inability to do their homework. Interesting how he showed that the Mexican President and British PM made him look even worse. Then he jumped down their throats re Obamacare.

(6,137 posts)unfortunately, things are going to get much worse quickly. Bannon is implementing Bannon/Dugin's extremist plot.
As for trump himself, I doubt he even read the constitution. His antics makes media spin 24/7 while so much real damage is being done. His persona makes his supporters feel at ease and they feel like he is real president getting done so much already, etc.
Our society had not been prepared for this because our minds were not open to allow the unthinkable to sink in.
and thank you.

(341 posts)It's the stacking of the courts, including the SC, that has me the most worried. We won't beat him in 2020 if we don't have legitimate elections or courts- and it seems to me that's where we are headed, and they're moving quickly, like you're saying.

We need to keep vigilant and resist!

(10,893 posts)notion of "President Trump" still sounds bizarre to me after one week. Nothing about his demeanor is presidential. He is a know-it-all, thin-skinned, cries about the media and crowd sizes on a daily basis, and disrespects foreign leaders. We didn't see that from Obama. Trump comes across more as an imposter who is assuming the title of "president". That's how much of a joke he is.

(122 posts)Your really being delusional. I live in Drump country and also go to many different political websites and his supporters are loving every move he is making. And though I disagree with the Drump I have to admit I have never seen anyone elected to office in my 50+ years on this planet so quickly start fulfilling his campaign promises. I'm afraid if he keeps this up he will win in a landslide in 2020 just from that fact. He will be able to say to the American people that look I did what I said I would do and they will eat it up.😪

(90,346 posts)... fucking up the economy with his "no down payment act" which was part of overheating the housing market and starting a fake war.
We'll see after the GOP repeals Obamacare and the UE rate goes up if they'll still stay by his side and act like he exist.
Without a false flag attack there will be no excuse for the UE rate and the LFPR numbers being worse than how Obama left them.
Social issues take a back seat to economic ones, I don't see the economy better in 2 years or even 4 years than the 4+ % Obama left it and the LFPR being at 6+%
His approval rating could go lower and usually does when he gets into office.
2020 is no shoe in seeing Drump Land voters are outnumbered by sane people
