The Independent reports:
The Muslim ban enacted by President Donald Trump will keep the Iranian director of an Oscar-nominated film from this years ceremony, according to reports. President Trump announced this week that nationals from seven Muslim countries will now be refused access to the United States of America, a move that is said to mean that filmmaker Asghar Farhadi will be unable to attend the prestigious event in February to support his own film.
Trump has ordered a four-month ban on all refugees from entering the country as well as enacting an indefinite ban on all those who hail from Syria. For 90 days, visas will not be issued to nationals from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. Farhadis film The Salesman is nominated in the Foreign Language category alongside Land of Mine (Denmark), Toni Erdmann (Germany), Its Only the End of the World (Canada) and Tanna (Australia).

(65,391 posts)over break? If one must go home because of illness or death in the family, as has sometimes happened during the semester, will they be prevented from coming back to complete the courses they have paid thousands of dollars for?
Students from Muslim countries are a significant part of our college and university enrollment. Colleges and universities recruit them. Losing their enrollment would really damage the bottom line, and with states continually decreasing financial support for higher education, schools *need* that money. The loss of tuition money from Muslim students would further increase the cost of college for US students, and college has already been priced out of reach for too many young people!

This ban will do wonders for European colleges.
