Italians who were not citizens were declared "Enemy aliens" over 600,000. All enemy aliens were required to register at local post offices. As enemy aliens they were required to be fingerprinted, photographed, and carry their photo-bearing "enemy alien registration cards" at all times. After much protest on Columbus Day 1942, Roosevelt lifted the ban.

(11,486 posts)before the war, his parents didn't want him to be a nazi. He was sent a letter from Hitler asking him to fight for the homeland, he burnt it.

(29,567 posts)My father still had the letter every soldier in the ETO got from Eisenhower thanking them after the Nazis were defeated when he died.

(34,661 posts)friends still had their I.D. cards pinned to their shirts and Jackets on their first day of School in 1945. Their parents just did not trust the Locals.
