(11,243 posts)They are the ones PEEING their pants about Trump now. They are completely useless now that their much anticipated "revolution" has come to pass. Isn't what they expected, I guess. It can go sideways on you FAST.

(53,034 posts)That the US had far greater potential to move to the far right--in the way we are seeing now--than to the left. Trump has unleashed some of the uglier aspects of our society that have been simmering beneath the surface for sometime.
The false equivalency people either ignored that, share Trump's hatreds, or are indifferent to suffering. All of those possibilities are contemptible.

(11,243 posts)It used to be so BORING here. I miss that.
Between NC's horrible HB2, Trump's racist and anti-LGBTQ insanity, over policing of poor communities of color and the way the economy is leaving young people behind, they are radicalizing those who feel hated, abused and left out. Realistically, they have little economic hope for the future, so not much to lose. Various marginalized communities are making common cause now. It a blip, but I see why it is happening and where it could go.
That's the thing with chaos theory and populist revolutions. One small, insignificant detail at the beginning has out-sized consequence down the road. They think they are in control, but who knows.

(2,419 posts)Have you learned anything?
I'm disappointed at all the DU posts that are angry at potential allies on the left.
In the case of your OP, violently angry.
(Not that I believe you really are violently angry. Your OP was a clever re-use of pop culture in a political context.)

(53,034 posts)Any more than any other Trump voter? Because they lie to themselves by claiming to be progressive doesn't make it so, particularly when they support racism and Islamophobia. Hell yes, I'm mad. I'm mad that they worked to ensure Trump would come to power and terrify my Muslim friends, who now can't sleep at night. I will not absolve their racism and misogyny just because they don't have the honesty to admit what they are. You go ally yourself with fascists all you want, but don't you dare lecture me about being intolerant of their hatred for the millions of Americans whose lives they have endangered because of their self-absorption. They had the chance to stand up against injustice and they chose fascism. At best they are selfish idiots, only they don't acknowledge they were wrong. Even as the country has been torn inside out, they continue to direct their hated toward the Democratic Party and our nation's most vulnerable citizens.
What would you have me learn from people too selfish, stupid, and hateful to recognize an authoritarian despot when they see him? They chose to ally themselves with the Klan. They chose to justify sexual predation and white supremacy, time and time again. They are Trump's allies, not mine.
Or there are people who make those kinds of false equivalencies, voted for someone lke Johnson, and even in the midst of this madness talk about being friends with Trump voters. It doesn't enter their heads what it must be like to be deported or held at airports. Their privilege allows them to see the election as just about politics in the abstract rather than a life-changing and traumatic event.
You bet I'm angry. Anyone who looks at what is happening now and isn't angry has serious problems. That you presume to tell me that I am allies with such people is absolutely unacceptable.
philly_bob
(2,419 posts)The Democratic Party has to build a winning coalition. Recent events like the Women's March and the spontaneous airport demonstrations offer great hope for this. (Would you forbid Stein voters from taking part in either of those?)
The labels in your post (racist, islamophobe, misogynist, fascist, self-absorbed, selfish, stupid, hateful, Klansmen, sexual predators, white supremacists) may apply to Donald's Deplorables. But applying those labels to progressives, as you seem to do, is ridiculous and bad strategy if you want to convince them to vote your way next time.

Who has a change of heart. When I do GOTV, I don't interrogate people about their previous voting history.

(12,448 posts)THANK you, BainsBane. You put into eloquent words exactly what I've been thinking, ever since the Tragedy on 11/8/16.
I wish I could rec an individual post.

Good lord is right. But it was funny to serve on a jury with just a picture.

(61,622 posts)Are you seriously suggesting that people who insisted that Hillary is just as bad as Trump need to be defended?
Maybe they need tea and sympathy? I have no patience for their entitled bleating.

Spending the Trump years fulminating about past thought/speech crimes by Democrats and progressives -- what good is that going to do?
I hope you let of go your anger.
I hope Arya turns the other cheek.
This is taking too much of my time, so I'm out of here...

(68,868 posts)The gratuitous T&A 'sexposition' has been notably less prevalent, allowing people to focus on the proper narratives of mass death, torture, and beheadings.

(80,708 posts)so I suspect it has less to do with trying to placate the Gail Dines crowd who are mad about "porn" than it has to do with "how the hell do we get the rest of this story wrapped up in the amount of time we have left".
And it's not like that has universally resulted in better television (although it's still my favorite thing to see by far) ... I mean, the Jaime and Bronn Dorne stuff was just painful to watch at times.

(80,708 posts)clunking around Dorne by themselves like it was a high school film project shot on someone's camcorder. And then- whoops! we turn the corner and then there is Myrcrella making out with whatzisname. Or it was like a three stooges movie.
I mean, I understand that to get the use of that historic location in Spain they had to sort of clear the decks of other people, but the end result made it look like there was a grand total population of six in what is supposed to be this huge part of Westeros.

(34,648 posts)But the Sand Snakes seemed like th had never met before. I was like, how are they related again? And 'bad pussy'? Oh lord. It was like a 1980 high school film about tow old guys maybe getting some.
I was glad to get back to the killing. I even clapped when Trystane got his, he was silly too.

(80,708 posts)I looked it up - I think during those years about the only thing we were watching was Battlestar Galactica, but it's real possible my wife may have seen it. British Crime Dramas are much more her speed than mine.
He's great, as Bronn. As Bravenak noted, maybe sometimes written a bit over the top, but still some much needed comic relief on that show.

(53,034 posts)in your clip, not the one who plays Bronn. Wire in the Blood is very dark, but I like that sort of thing.
