General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI buried my best friend Sunday.
It was a week after her death. Relatives had to come from many places and the funeral mass was in another city. Logistics.
It was a bright, sunny day with some clouds sailing across the sky. The wind blew fiercely in a reminder of her spirit. I will have to raise twice as much hell now that she is gone.
Her grave is in a plot near the side of the cemetery and across the fence are railroad tracks. She liked trains so now their clickety-clack will sing to her as they travel by.
I caught myself looking around to try to find her walking up. We would have stood side by side to honor the fallen. I was a guard of one.
It was melancholy. That is a word that is not used too much.
Melancholy.....

(5,519 posts)I am so sorry that you lost your friend. The clickety clack will stay in my mind for some time.
Your friend was fortunate to have such a strong bond with you and must have been much loved by you.

With images of billions of planets we are the lucky ones to live on the most beautiful rock in the Universe. If while on this gorgeous planet we fight without yielding, race without stopping and help someone with their load then we have achieved everything possible.
From your beautiful words I know she received a lot from your friendship and helped her with her load.

(12,157 posts)As do you, my dear heart. It is so hard on us who remain when those we have loved our whole lives leave us. The blessing you have is all the great memories that keep her alive in your heart. You earlier eulogy painted a picture of a truly great friend and person.
For Sheila:
Eternal rest grant unto her , O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon Sheila .
May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.
For us who remain is a world less bright in her absence, especially Are_grits_groceries:
God of all consolation,
in your unending love and mercy for us,
you turn the darkness of death into the dawn of new life.
Show compassion to your people in sorrow.
Be our refuge and our strength to lift us
from the darkness of this grief
to peace and joy in your presence.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
