One issue in particular has sparked controversy and headlines this week: the new president's executive order temporarily banning refugees from seven Muslim countries. Bill Jackson says the action represents common sense. He thinks there's good reason to keep Muslims out.
"I feel the same way," Bill says, describing a broad concern that Islam is incompatible with life in America.
"I feel that if a Muslim woman wants to move into this country, she needs to leave her towel home. Because the reason this country is here and safe today is because of Jesus Christ," Bill says. "We were one nation under God. The Muslims are into Allah. They can't live there (in their home countries) anymore because of all the turmoil and unrest. Here we still have somewhat peace. So if you're going to come here to enjoy this peace, follow our rules and be one nation under God. Or stay home. I'm not making you change your religion, or whatever you want to call it, your belief. But if you want this, what we want, then you got to do what we're doing to get it."
A lot of Americans think one of the great things about this nation is that you can worship whatever god you want. Bill shook his head at that notion.
"That is something I believe that has come along with political correctness and all this other garbage," he said, insisting that America is a fundamentally Christian nation.

"One Nation under God" was that not put in by Fascist Nut Job Joe Mc. in the 50's.

(22,037 posts)It was not Senator Joseph McCarthy who introduced the bill to add the words "Under God." It was Representative Charles Oakman (R-MI). Nonetheless, the history is worth the read.

I don't really care what someone worships as long as they don't try to make me believe the same shit. Of which many religious people do, evidenced by what they want to do with a Womans Body. Just for starters.

(35,077 posts)* Even the most conservative and insular Muslims respect Jesus as a prophet
* It's called a hijab
* Allah is the same God of Jews and Christians, according to Muslims, and in my experience with Muslims, I've only heard "Allah" mentioned a couple of times outside of religious rituals. Rest of the time, it's just God. Including from a Moroccan coworker of mine who tells me that God protects me. I truly feel a lot better hearing that than the "not my problem" cliche espoused by a number of these so-called "real Americans" that Bill stands with.

(212 posts)Women that wear head coverings for religious reasons should be banned. There is nothing American about what those women are wearing on their heads. Of course they all have ties to terrorism. Take the Amish, that's a group we should keep our eyes on. We can't overlook the Mennonites either. The terrorist tendencies of them and certain Jewish groups can't be ignored. There are even certain groups of Christians that dare to cover their hair. Yeah, I have to agree with what is being said. I haven't even listed all the religious groups with the obviously un-American beliefs defined by their head coverings.
Now a real American wears a ball cap. The grungier the better. If it isn't a breeding ground for fleas and lice, there might be something suspicious about them. There is an exception for camouflage. It is necessary to keep hidden any hint of the possibility of a working brain underneath. How are they doing?

You're called an elitist if you point out their ignorance. You're told you think you're better than they are if you try to explain how everything they just said is factually incorrect.
One of the biggest obstacles to explaining anything to them is how far back you have to go to the very basic of basics and move forward. You have to catch them up on so many things just to get around to the current single point of error.
And it's all pointless because they are as happy as pigs in shit, wallowing about in their ignorance, squealing their own praise for being so definitively wrong about everything.

(9,350 posts)I heard an evangelical on the radio complaining that some religious groups are going to Muslim countries and giving them bibles that use the word Allah. He wanted Muslims to be given bibles that only mentioned God. He is a believer of the idea that God and Allah are not the same thing. I am pretty certain many of his followers agree with him.

(9,350 posts)I believe there is a joke that says Catholics do not read the Bible. I think there many Christians who do not read or study the Bible and are not aware of what is in the Bible. I could be wrong, but I think many Christians would probably fail a test given on scriptures from the Bible. How many Republicans who push for having the Ten Commandments in or near government buildings cannot recite them?
I am not trying to insult or be mean to Christians; I am just point out many Christians may not know what is in the Bible.
