My shocking interview with a Trump voter at Muslim Ban protest in Houston

While we hyperventilate about every tweet that Trump sends out, the real danger lies with the administration's indoctrination machine. This interview is riveting because it shows how and why his base lives in an alternate state of reality.

This Trump voter makes it clear to me that one can have a degree of intelligence but still fall for the trappings of a false narrative that premises one's condition. That is the battle that we must fight.

Is the new "I am not racist, I have a black friend" I highly doubt that this person voted for Obama at all, that is just a common tactic to make it seem like they aren't racist because they voted for Trump.

He just comes across as someone who gets his news from Fox News and doesn't realize that they pass opinions off as if they were facts. He's been fooled. These people will eventually learn the hard way and it's really important NOT to call them racists and insult them for being tricked. They will vote against Republicans next time so no one should be alienating them.

I think he is the same type of person that was afraid to admit openly that he was going to vote for Trump because he didn't want to get called out for it. He knew he was being filmed so be was self-censoring what he said.

I don't. He's at least the 5th Trump supporter that I've heard say that. But they don't give any reason why they stopped supporting Obama. They started reading infowars and that convinced them? Please.

ETA: Sort of a dupe of post #2, but that wasn't there when I started my post. Great minds and all that.

Maybe not as well informed as he could be, and willing to torque the facts, or simply ignore them, to accommodate his ideology.

And he's good at regurgitating crap he reads online or on Fox. But not so good at independent thought.

And I really doubt he voted for Obama.

"I know there are a lot of families and children who are afraid and worried right now about what might happen to them. I want them to know that Houston is, and always has been, a welcoming city, where we value and appreciate diversity," Mayor Turner said in a statement on the city's site.

Slightly greater chance of dumpage as a motive. Because that's a lot of willful ignorance and bitterness and malice under the semi-affable exterior. Also, he knows he's wrong. The longer he talks, the more nervous he gets, the harder he's having to work to steer and connect his ideas. Bet he's got all sorts of ideas about his poor, fragile, insulted privilege.

And lacks the self-awareness to see it.

If that is true, that probably had more to do with it than anything else. Be interesting to know what flavor of Christian he is. Could be he goes to a church that preaches that Christians are being persecuted in this country (by Democrats, of course).
