Davidson says they are afraid of protests. (CNN) Trump is going to have to stay away from big cities and stick to visiting rural areas and small cities.

(42,759 posts)I wonder if the Secret Service has been telling Trump to keep his public appearances
down to the bare minimum due to a number of theats they have been made aware of.
Disclaimer: I do not condone nor suggest any acts of violence toward any government official.

(4,066 posts)Death threats and threats of violence are really more the style of the right-wing. Especially the alt-right.
They are the ones who threaten rape and violence against public figures and their families. Not us lefties.

(3,231 posts)Even Montana had over 10,000 people at the women's march in Helena. Hell, that's 1/4 the city. Even in my red county, red state in KY there are PLENTY of pissed off people. Please don't forget - a lot of small red areas have at least 35% blue voters!

My take: I guess goodwill with their customers is beating out currying favour with the new President.

(81,322 posts)I will give him this much:
He seems to have been a human B-12 shot in the cheeks. I am marveling at the explosion of creativity that he's... um... "inspired". The handmade signs at the L.A. Women's March! There were even large papier mache figures! And not just visuals but verbal (hard to top the brilliance of "We Are Not Ovary-acting" - one of my absolute FAVORITES!!!) and considering the clever chanting and the drum circles with dancing in the middle of intersections (no cars for blocks! Only people!) it was also a treat for the ears.
And then there's the spontaneous outbreak of massive peaceful protest marches. That takes it to a whole other level.
And it's now two major entertainment industry events, the Golden Globes, and the SAG Awards, where actors and actresses have spoken out, using that level of "bully pulpit." Adds further injury to what I'm sure galls Orange Julius to no end: these folks didn't vote for him, and they're rich and famous like he is, only difference is - people LIKE them. And they DON'T like him! And he CRAVES being liked. Even worse, most of them made it obvious they wouldn't be caught dead anywhere near him on January 20th, either as an attendee, invitee, or performing participant.

(19,565 posts)Trump had been scheduled to tour the factory Thursday where he also planned to sign executive orders related to American manufacturing.
Large protests have been in the works in recent days, particularly in light of Trump's executive order issuing an immigration ban.
It was the threat of protests, and not Trump's planned signing of executive orders, that made Harley-Davidson uncomfortable, the official said.

I wonder if they thought there would be clashes between protesters and customers in the area.
But whatever the background for the decision that had to do with protests, it sounds like the number of possible protesters was massive. I'm recalling the crowds at the state capitol years ago.

(860 posts)buying American that is. Since I heard that many Michigan union members put him over the top, I am re-thinking that.
Why not. During Obama admin the flying monkeys wanted to and did boycott Detroit. Just because Obama came up
with a decent proposal for saving the car companies.

(1,670 posts)I doubt they are too worried about protests, or violence. I suspect they are worried about sales. If all the liberal folks who buy Harley's because it's a "Icon of Freedom" start thinking that it's also an icon of bigotry it will hurt sales. This will protect their vanity market and not really hurt the Harley base, they can blame it on liberals
