(28,394 posts)This is way worse than w, and I thought if we survived him, we could survive this. I was wrong.

(2,573 posts)this was a long cause and he's not changing....he's probably incapable of any kind of change. So this is just as I expected...as soon as I heard Bannon was on board and let's not forget the disgusting parade of women at the debate I said Oh this is bad..this is really really bad and they'll stop at nothing.

(22,165 posts)...but I did not expect him to plunge forward so quickly with an agenda solely based on hate .... I do know he had a campaign solely based in hate (racism and bigotry of all stripes) so I don't know why I expected a slow slide into hate.
Hate is all he has

(46,166 posts)So every night now I'm going to remind myself that I own my dreams and tell myself how I want them to be. It worked for me decades ago when I had a run of bad ones. I expect to take control of the situation.
Btw, it never happened during W's administration. But this guy is even more of a danger to the world given his hateful and erratic behavior.
Thanks again, yardwork!

(1,570 posts)The first being climate change and the second being nuclear war. As far as I can tell, we're still barreling down both paths. If anything we're accelerating. Everything else is second tier.
He fucking TOLD us. he TOLD everyone! Go back and take a look at his campaigning. It's all there. (And, I'm not directing this at you, OPer).
We were too damn busy trying to lift up our candidate from OUR OWN PARTY MEMBERS that just couldn't vote for her, because.....
Now, look what we got. He.told.us.
Elections have consequences.
I am glad though to see we may be finally joining together, because it's going to take all of us to fight this.

(61,650 posts)So far, nothing he's done has surprised me. We're only in the second week though.

(41,989 posts)It's exactly what I expected.

(6,148 posts)the people who are surprised are the people who stayed home. Those people who didn't like Hillary but voted for her anyway, or endorsed her, like George Bush and George W. Bush, knew what they were doing. Even Ryan is scared of him. Didn't want to campaign with him.
My husband is convinced (I think he's out of his mind) that Hillary would have done all of the same things. He really believed that her left wing views were lies to get her elected, and as soon as it happened, she would sell us out. So maybe the people who stayed home thought this too. Disagreement got me nowhere, so I just did my best to point out her strengths and her voting record.

(6,148 posts)My husband has never been so vocal about his opinion before. And he has always supported me when I was campaigning. He seems to have found his voice, and I probably couldn't shut him down if I tried. So, I tune out when he's talking about Hillary. Most of the other stuff he says I agree with.

(42,759 posts)But he is exceeding my expectations with the choices he has
made for cabinet positions and other high level offices. I
thought he would at least choose some talent that could
bail his worthless ass out but that isn't gonna happen.

(10,429 posts)I just didn't think that it would happen this quickly.

(6,139 posts)I was hoping that he was using Bannon/alt-right just to win the election. I was hoping he would be focusing on jobs only initially. I never expected daily gaslight from WH. I refused to beleive it was going to be a coup. This was the most consequential election in our lifetimes; the one that's about to end our democracy. A radical departure from our values.

(18,837 posts)I expected "Apprentice"-level excess, and decisions based on what was most likely to piss off Democrats / Liberals.
And that's exactly what we got.
Obviously, I had no idea of specifics, but in terms of magnitude, this is exactly what I expected...and this is just the warm-up act.
torius
(1,652 posts)but not at the rapid speed it's gone. Thought rather than instant chaos, he'd flounder trying to figure out how to get what he wanted done without knowing anything about government. I didn't know he could snap his finger and trap people at airports--I had this belief there were laws that worked at least in day-to-day situations. Now I know better.

(10,893 posts)doing everything and fulfilling all the incompetence I expected from him so far (aside from the "locking her up" and "building the wall" things). I paid attention to all the ignorant things he said and lofty regressive promises he made since he started campaigning, and it comes as no surprise to me how his administration is sabotaging the country in the first few weeks. I always expected him to be worse than Bush II, especially with the GOP controlling all 3 branches.
