CNN producer detained at ATL will challenge Trump travel ban under two federal laws

CNN editor and producer Mohammed Tawfeeq was detained at the Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Sunday after President Donald Trump’s executive order barring people entering the United States if they come from certain countries.

Tawfeeq was born in Iraq but is a permanent legal resident of the United States and has been since 2013, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. According to the lawsuit against Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection, he often travels to the Middle East as part of his job at CNN. It explains that he is protected under the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 and the Administrative Procedure Act, which could challenge the legality of Trump’s order.

Despite being a permanent legal resident and having the proper paperwork, Tawfeeq was detained and forced into additional screening.

According to the AJC, the suit outlines the order cannot be applied to lawful permanent residents or green card holders returning after short trips.

So how many actual terrorists did the idiot catch? Hmmmmm?

I am sure that Donald is giddy that someone from CNN was detained but the asshole doesn't have the right to use the office of the president to exact petty revenge.

And I hope that CNN continues to provide bridge employment to any Trump administration officials who temporarily run afoul of public opinion. Imagine what might have happened to poor Corey Lewandowski if CNN hadn't been there to provide him a lucrative safety net in 2016!

See what you got for your trouble, CNN?
