What are our chances here?

(5,043 posts)There are now a total of 50 U.S. senators who have said they will vote no on the nomination of Betsy DeVos for our next Secretary of Education. A 50-50 tie would be broken by Vice President Mike Pence, putting a dangerous and unqualified DeVos in charge of America's public education.
But if we can get one, DeVos is done.
As it stands, 48 Democrats and 2 Republicans have gone on record saying they oppose DeVos for education secretary. That means we just need one more Republican senator to do the right thing.
Here are the GOP senators you can contact and tell them that Betsy DeVos is dangerously unqualifed for the job of Secretary of Education:
MOST LIKELY TO FLIP: Senator Pat Toomey: 202-224-4254 (PA)
NO OFFICIAL POSITIONS STATED: Senator Shelley Capito: 304-347-5372 (WV); Senator Dean Heller: 202-224-6244 (NV); Senator Jerry Moran: 202-224-6521 (KS); Senator Deb Fischer: 202-224-6551 (NE); Senator Rob Portman: 202-224-3353 (OH).

(22,308 posts)With 2 (R)s flipping the count is 50-50 (unless I am mistaken). If that is accurate then the VP will cast the deciding vote.
If one (R) just doesn't show up for the vote, not counting the 2 voting with us, then we should win 50-49.
Maybe we should be concentrating on just buying one an all expense paid trip to Hawaii.

(2,056 posts)Then won't his senate vote be lost since he will no longer be a senator? Sessions is going to get through anyway, as sucky as he is...but if Dems let that vote happen and let him get confirmed while stalling on DeVos then they will have just enough to block her dumb ass. And to be honest...it is going to be in the Dem's favor to get Session's vote out of the Senate.
