I'm thinking that probably world leaders from countries like Mexico, Canada, Australia, Germany - the rational leaders who are (or at least were) allies, are probably having conference calls about how to deal with what has become a source of global instability.
They have to know that the majority of America is not going along with this agenda after all the protests and the response to the ban. They have to all be wondering the same thing we are about how long this will be allowed to go on. They must be contacting members of Congress? Like Schumer? I'm sure they have to tread gingerly given the volatility of the situation, but there has to be members of Congress who are reasonable that they have connections with.
I sure would like to know what is happening behind the scenes right now.
Just updated: Sure would like to know what Obama is doing behind the scenes. He has good connections with Mexico, Canada, Australia.

(9,526 posts)very carefully...with members of Congress they have connections with. They have to have some connections, right? Or maybe Obama is doing something with them behind the scenes.

(40,233 posts)This situation is very serious. These leaders watched the campaign and were worried when Trump won the election. Now, they must be alarmed.

(6,154 posts)With the US as unstable and unpredictable as it is, I feel that it has fallen to the rest of the western democracies like us (Canada et al) to fill the vacuum with at least some semblance of stability. Some form of cooperative alliance among a large network of nations, not just Europe, or North America etc, would go a long way to easing fears. I'm speaking of an alliance specifically formed to counter the fallout of America's fascist thrashings. For example with the global Muslim ban such an alliance could collectively work out a way to redistribute the refugees that the US is turning away, not just on a country by country basis but as a collective. Similar actions would be taken to help cushion the global fallout from future damaging moves the US will make.

Does the rest of the world know how upset the majority of Americans are? Do they know Trump is not speaking for us? Seeing the protests and responses, they must know.

(4,533 posts)I read 48% support it, 41% oppose it. Americans supported locking up the Japanese, they supported banning Chinese, they supported racism in probably most states. So I do not agree that foreign leaders think most of us oppose the ban. I bet they see us as we really are: ignorant bigots. But we overcame our hatred of gays, our support of open racism, and I am sure our bigots will fade into the dustbins of history. But for now we have a fight on our hands.
