Trump backers like his early moves: Its what executives are supposed to be

ACCIDENT, Md. — In this tiny town of rolling hills in far western Maryland, many of President Trump’s supporters have a message to those protesting his policies: Take a deep breath and stop yelling.

Many here say the president is simply doing everything he promised to do and that he was elected to do — fight political correctness, protect the country from terrorists, crack down on illegal immigration, make Washington’s swamp dwellers uncomfortable and show strength to other countries. Critics are unfairly exaggerating the effect of Trump’s executive orders and complaining without giving him a fair chance, supporters say, just as critics blew some of his comments and jokes out of proportion during the campaign.

“I think people are just picking sides and not really getting all of the facts that they need,” said Charisse Smith, 25, a waitress at Annie’s Kitchen Country Restaurant on Main Street who voted for Trump. “They just go along with their side. They’re not digging into what they’re actually saying.”

There’s wide support in this town of roughly 320 for the president’s rapidly implemented ban on refugees and on citizens of seven countries that are predominantly Muslim, along with Trump’s decision Monday night to dismiss the acting attorney general who refused to defend the executive order.

And no, the anti-immigrant stuff isn't about security or jobs, it's about prejudice (small towns aren't losing jobs or lives to refugees and Muslim immigrants).

Outside of the cities much of the USA is a backwards, bigoted cultural wasteland.

Like this gent:

Others at the restaurant that afternoon agreed. A 60-year-old who works in the oil and gas industry said he is relieved to have a “tough businessman” in the White House and hopes Trump will “slam the door shut” on all Middle Easterners.

Or this chickenshit bedwetter bigot:

Karen Engel, a retired hairdresser who lives in the next town over, said her niece attends West Virginia University and has a co-worker who is from Syria and is nervous about what could happen. This summer, Engel was in Ocean City and skipped the fireworks display for fear that the crowd could be targeted by terrorists.

Before the election, Engel said, she was discussing Trump’s proposed “Muslim ban” — at that point a wholesale barring of foreigners of Islamic faith — and a friend posed a hypothetical: Three people show up at your house, starving and needing a place to stay. Engel said she would help them. Then the friend asked what she would do if there was a chance one might stab her. Engel changed her answer.

“I don’t know who’s the bad person in the bunch, but I’m not willing to let anyone in,” said Engel, 58, a lifelong Democrat who voted for Trump.

We're stuck with these people. Blech.

can't breathe the air in their neighborhood, can't afford to drive on their taxed

infiltrated by Creationists, can't afford insurance for health care, have their food stamps,

Medicare ,and Medicaid slashed, maybe they will see and feel the error of voting for

Trump and Republicans.

I would love for a push back against the "PC" label. The right has slandered that phrase to the point it's become a label like "liberal". When did being a decent human being to your neighbor become a bad thing? It's infuriating.

It is a virtually meaningless label and people project their own ideas onto it. Progressives/Liberals argue for language that is inclusive and respectful of people who have been historically marginalized. I know that some people on the other side of the issue, including some who share some liberal views like Bill Maher say that "PC" restricts the ability of people to express themselves and creates resentment. Perhaps it does, though I would disagree. It is difficult to be inclusive and respectful, especially of values that go against your own, but I believe that the label has been denigrated to stifle the movement toward inclusion and respect.

We need to push back and remind people of what you stated. Being a decent, respectful human being is not a bad thing. Being intolerant and using exclusionary language is.

Has very right to her opinion, yet I doubt the bigoted darling understands the consequences of "digging what they're actually saying" much less the actual actions of Trumps administration, which will be, ultimately, war--we just don't know who with yet.

Thu Feb 2, 2017, 04:39 PM
Feb 2017

He has the worst "first weeks" approval ratings in history (the Gallup daily tracking poll), and I have heard almost nothing about this on CNN or msnbc or Fox. I don't expect Fox to report them but still you'd think the others would discuss the numbers or at least one of the "democrat" pundits on Fox would mention that his numbers are the lowest ever in modern times).

Notice that Trump himself NEVER mentions the Gallup tracking poll, and if he mentions polls at all these days he talks about his "yuuuuuuge" pre-election polls (which correctly showed that Hillary would win the popular vote), and/or he states that he doesn't "believe in polls." Of course he doesn't believe in them -- except when they have him in the lead or above 50% in terms of approval numbers.

Instead of talking about Trump's hideous "approval" (rather, disapproval) numbers, and that by any standards his term is off to an extremely inauspicious start, our incredible (hah) media people do silly stories like this one in which they talk to a few voters who live in an area that voted in massive numbers for Trump. This is obviously a skewed perspective.
