The first of 3,500 American troops began rolling into Poland for a nine-month-long mission starting on Jan. 8, 2017. Its an unprecedented length of time for a U.S. armored unit to stay in Eastern Europe. The U.S. Armys 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division were heading to Zagan and Pomorskie, with the units 87 M-1 Abrams tanks following on trains.
But as the troops move beyond Zagan, they will fall under the shadow of Russias land-based strike missiles in Kaliningrad, the Connecticut-sized enclave squeezed between Poland, Lithuania and the Baltic Sea. Russia has invested heavily in building up its military presence there in recent years.
From Russia with love - eh drumpf....

Threatening Germany from Konigsberg seems like a bad idea to me.

(5,995 posts)3. When do we "put them on notice"?
The Iranians test a missile that could someday, maybe carry a warhead that they could someday, maybe build and we threaten new sanctions even without clear violation of the latest agreements.
The Russians deploy a proven missile with proven technology to deploy a nuclear warhead and we relax sanctions to sell them technology.
Who was it that said we'll sell the capability to destroy us?
eta: maybe it's time to Crimeaize that piece of land
