Originally the motto referred to federalism but later alludes to the USA as a Melting Pot.

This would be a perfect time to take back our flag from the RW "patriots". What better symbol for what we are fighting for, constitution, freedom, than the American flag? When I encounter RW trolls on Twitter, whenever I turn it on them, that WE are the patriots, they are the Russian puppet traitors, it stops them in tracks they don't know how to deal with it. Do what the teabaggers did, take the flag!
