What was is no more.

Growing up in the 1950s had its charms. Ike and Mamie were in the White House, new cars rolled along newly built highways. My parents and their friends were Republicans. Living in our “neighborhood” meant that we learned to show up for each other to offer help when it was needed and to gather for celebrations like births and graduations. Borrowing a cup of sugar or lending a couple of eggs was no big deal. We were raised to be kind, we were expected to become decent human beings. And for the life of me, I cannot begin to imagine anyone in today’s Republican party fitting into that environment, and that is profoundly and painfully sad.

Republicans talk about Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt, yet they
ignore Dwight Eisenhower!
