Trump: I wanted month delay before travel ban, was told no
http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/08/politics/donald-trump-travel-ban-delay/index.html
Trump, speaking to law enforcement officials in Washington, said he argued before the order was finalized for giving travelers a month's notice before cutting off entry to the US.
But he said he was overruled by law enforcement officials, who he didn't name, alleging the delay could prompt a flood of dangerous terrorists into the country -- an explanation that failed to account for the lengthy process of obtaining a US visa or applying for refugee status.
"The law enforcement people said to me, 'Oh, you can't give a notice,' " Trump said at a conference for the Major Cities Chiefs Association. "I suggested a month. And I said, 'What about a week?' They said you can't do that because then people are gonna pour in before the toughness."
It was a surprising admission, given the President's full-throated defense of his travel ban. He even tweeted Sunday after a judge suspended its implementation: "Just cannot believe a judge would put our country in such peril. If something happens blame him and court system. People pouring in. Bad!"

(9,350 posts)He is the President. How can a group of law enforcement officials stop him from doing something he wants done? I understand he is trying to claim the law enforcement officials were opposed to the idea of a weeks long or months long delay and that influenced his decision to move forward with an immediate ban. However, he is still the President. It is his decision whether or not to push for certain ideas and to sign certain executive orders. The buck is supposed to stop with the President.

(65,076 posts)He criticizes the judge for the stay, but he was planning on holding off anyway. That tells me, there was no urgency to implement until after someone shut it down on legal grounds. Then it became urgent enough for him to publicly shame a sitting federal judge.

(9,350 posts)Yeah, since getting elected it has been everybody else's fault, except when things go right. When Yemen went wrong it was President Obama's fault. When good jobs numbers came in it was Trump's doing. Now that the travel ban is getting criticism, the travel ban was the fault of law enforcement.

(24,414 posts)If he wanted a one-month delay on the ban, his handlers could have written it a different way before giving it to him to sign, right? Of course, a Travel ban like this hasn't been in place ever, so why would another month have made any difference anyway? An illegal EO is still an illegal EO whenever it is enacted.

Maybe it was Sherriff Clarke in Milwaukee. Hell maybe it was former Sherriff Arpaio

He knows so many many top law enforcement geniuses. And it's not from all the criminal investigations he always has to defend himself against. So don't entertain that notion, even for a second.

(7,432 posts)Because Trumpy said he did something doesn't mean he did it. Quite the contrary, it NEVER means he did it. There is no "law enforcement official" with whom he spoke, because what really happened is that he made it up after hearing a pundit on Fox. He didn't speak to anyone. This is how he gets his points of reference, just like his "thousands and thousands" of Palestinians in... where? New Jersey? Cheering on the WTC building collapses? He hears stuff on the TV or radio and he references the stuff as facts.
Trust nothing Trumpy says, and you're approaching the truth.
