I Feel Like We're Living In A "Simpsons" Episode

The one where Homer runs for Trash Commissioner against the incumbent (voiced by Steve Martin), makes a lot of outlandish promises that he could never keep, the voters all eat it up because it sounds so good, Homer wins, and then can't deliver on his promises, thereby ruining Springfield to the point that they actually have to abandon the town and move it 5 miles down the road.

My favorite part of that episode is when everyone realizes that Homer is a buffoon who has no idea what he's doing, they all beg Steve Martin to come back and rescue them, and this is his response:

Republicans in general always leave a financial mess for the Democrats to clean up. They raid the coffers for them and their wealthy friends, and start expensive wars to loot and stroke their egos to get cred as being or supporting a War President.

And so the incoming Democrat always has his or her hands tied by crippling debt so that they can't initiate any of their social spending plans that would benefit average Americans. Its a perfect situation for Republicans. They can blow the wad on themselves and at the same time hand-tie the incoming D admin so that they won't be able start anything that people will then give positive credit to. Because they spend most of their term having to be fiscally tight just to get things squared up.........for the next Republican to screw up.
