(2,338 posts)Over my 55 years, I've heard most of these comments.
And mentally thought, "Go fuck yourself!" and continued to forge ahead.

(29,251 posts)My father, who is a lifelong conservative in his 90s, has become even more angry about progressive values, and he hammered me when I was visiting last week. Because I am the representation of all that. He lashed out, mean-spirited, with verbal attacks about as bad as you can possibly imagine. He's got a little dementia but I can tell this was fueled by the current culture war, just another tRump enthusiast relishing new social power. He wants to put me in my place because I'm a "strong woman."
It was horrific for me, pretty much ripped me apart. I guess I am a strong woman, though, because as much as I love him, I held it together and barely cried later. Just have to accept that some people just see the world so differently. He incredulously asked me "so you are admitting you're a strong woman?" To which I said "yes, and I don't see that as something to feel bad about."
Overheard him telling my mom after he read about the Gorsuch appointment that tRump made a great choice in this Judge and "see? I think he's going to do just fine as president."

(29,251 posts)I figure it'll take them about 15 minutes to change the channel and maybe a glimmer of light will get through. He likes Limbaugh. Nothing I can really do about that. And he has always been very intelligent. Just pathetic how "media" is destroying the country and, very sadly, families.
Thanks for the thoughtful support

(14,014 posts)gained such a large following the last few decades. It feeds faux news and pout-rage to formerly decent people and turns their opinions into twisted and bitter regurgitations.
Thanks Ronnie Reagan.
Maybe next visit hide the radio too.

(2,338 posts)My West Texas family is also brainwashed into believing in "conservative values" despite how they have harmed them. They are deeply religious and believe that any candidate...good or bad...that espouses "Christian values" has their vote. But they don't take the time to see if they are being sold a bottle of snake oil.
Republicans play dirty. We need to fight back. Fire against fire. But without discarding our souls and humanity.

(29,149 posts)She posted it on Facebook yesterday, then after a few hours was like "84 shares! I'm overwhelmed!" Then later that night it was at 1400 and she mentioned being amazed again and now it's at more than 30k on Facebook alone .
Here's her post: https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10210875558338733&id=1045379325&set=a.10210870006359937.1073741966.1045379325&source=48
It clearly struck a chord. I think it's a pretty amazing bit of work.

If it is another Lynda Carter, I love her, too.
