Jason Chaffetz: Kellyanne Conway Promoting Ivanka Trumps Products Was "Unacceptable"

Jason Chaffetz: Kellyanne Conway Promoting Ivanka Trump’s Products Was ‘Unacceptable’

Chaffetz told reporters on Capitol Hill that Conway’s remarks were “clearly over the line” and “unacceptable,” and that he and the top Democrat on the committee, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), would jointly refer Conway to the Office of Government Ethics for an investigation.

“It should have never happened, and they better learn this lesson very quick,” Chaffetz told NBC.

Chaffetz was referring to Conway’s appearance on “Fox and Friends” Thursday morning, when she defended President Donald Trump’s attack against Nordstrom for dropping his daughter’s fashion line by advertising the brand.

Conway appeared to violate a federal regulation stating that government employees cannot use their public office to endorse products, quickly raising complaints from ethics watchdog groups.

I wonder if he is seeing the wind starting to blow in the other direction and does not want to be seen in cohoot with an administration that is very likely to end up impeached.

2. Wolf Blitzer batters Jason Chaffetz for refusing to investigate Trump's conflicts of interest

Definitely a change of heart for him:
CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Wednesday hammered House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz over Donald Trump’s potential conflicts of interest, at one point reminding the Republican leader that his responsibility is to serve as a check-and-balance for the president.

Chaffetz responded to a question about conflicts inherent in the president’s sprawling business empire by insisting, “the president is exempt from conflicts of interest, so it’s kind of a non-issue,” adding Trump has promised to “wall … off” his business interests while president.

“What about the emolument clause of the U.S. Constitution,” Blitzer asked, referring to a clause some Constitutional scholars interpret to mean Trump is forbidden from taking any money from a foreign state.

“I know it’s surprising and frustrating to Democrats, but the president is exempt from these conflicts of interest,” Chaffetz repeated.

“But he’s not exempt from the emoluments clause, is he?” Blitzer pressed.

Chaffetz argued he refused to go on a “fishing expedition that the Democrats want us to go into,” adding the public understood what they were getting into when the “overwhelmingly” elected Trump into office.

“You’re the chairman of this Oversight Committee that’s looking at the executive branch of the U.S. government,” Blitzer reminded Chaffetz, adding “the President of the United States potentially could be in violation of the U.S. Constitution.”

...will always check which way the wind is blowing before he moves... I seem to remember:

"I can no longer in good conscience endorse this person for president. It is some of the most abhorrent and offensive comments that you can possibly imagine. My wife and I, we have a 15-year-old daughter, and if I can’t look her in the eye and tell her these things, I can’t endorse this person."

Yeah, about that....

She's well on her way to getting a strongly worded letter from Chaffetz. He might even slap her on the wrist if she persists with this illegal behavior. It's a good thing she was never a Democrat and never let Chaffetz see any of her emails, or she might be in for five years of hearings.
