Five questions that no one ever asks Republicans:

Isn't it true that hiring new workers is ALWAYS the last resort for any business?

Which one is true, that the economy is sluggish because demand is so anemic, or because rich "job creators" aren't rich enough?

Why would "job creators" hire new workers if demand still sucks for their business?

Why is a booming economy good for the President and Democrats and bad for Republicans?

Why are Republicans focusing more on abortion than jobs?

Get to the end-result of their actions.

6.) So, guy has cancer, needs radiation, can't get it, doesn't have insurance. You don't want insurance. Do you let the guy die? Is that your plan?

7.) Why do you worship the jobs' creators, if they're doing such an awful job?

8.) Why do you use one tax, the federal income tax, as the gauge of fairness? Shouldn't it be the amount of income left, after we pay ALL taxes that is the measure of how fair our system is? Doesn't taxing dollars over a certain amount, even if the percentage is really, really high, actually make our system MORE fair?

Wed Jun 27, 2012, 03:25 PM
Jun 2012

I've never seen a conservative manage to become genuinely angry about anything. They'll scream and shout, and some will even hop up and down. but they don't actually have anger. Anger is the result of injustice, and the Republicans have had their asses polished for so long, they have no idea what that's like.

No, what they have is hate. Hate can look like anger, but it's not. They do not want justice, they have no wrongs begging to be righted. They just want to spread spite and cause harm to others.

Rage is what happens when you read of two teenagers being murdered for loving each other. Rage is what happens when you hear of a Korean War vet starving to death on the street. Rage is what's left when you see the world you're set to inherit is a wasteland. Rage is when your friend's mother dies from treatable cancer for lack of money, but there's plenty of money to kill Arabs with. Rage is when you work yourself ragged, and your bank account only ever moves backwards. Rage is what happens when you have to choose between feeding your children and keeping a roof over their head.

They don't know what rage is.

Those things don't cause rage in a soulless, conservative brain. What they have is misguided rage based on whatever phony outrage they have been spoon-fed that particular week. It's a self-serving rage that begins as hatred. Then all it takes is for the spin merchants to just poke the soulless conservative with a hot stick and see what happens.

8. I have a fox-watching ...
Wed Jun 27, 2012, 11:37 AM
Jun 2012

(though he denies it), rightwing, christian, conservative small business owning family friend. During our family outings, we inevitably stumble into political decisions ... he HATES the government, especially the Federal government (even though 90% of his business can be traced to Stimulus dollars) and he HATES, HATES, HATES President Obama.

My friend's most frequent complaints are the typical fox-fare ... taxes are too high, there are too many regulations and there is too much "economic uncertainty", these three things all combine to stop businesses from job creating.

My stock responses are to ask: "Name one regulation that has prevented you from hiring the workers you need to complete a job? What level of tax cuts would encourage you to hire someone when you don't have the jobs to keep your current crew busy? And, wouldn't that economic uncertainty be resolved if the gop would just gave President Obama everything he wants ... Wouldn't you be able to plan knowing that this policy or that policy was going to go into effect, whether you agree with the policy or not?"

This usually results in a story about some local government bureaucrat that held his company to the precise letter of some obscure regulation. Though I suspect that the stories are either, untrue, or more likely the bureaucrats response to my friend's "I'm soooo much smarter than you, you lowly government worker" attitude, I just remind him that he still hasn't answered the job creation question.

That usually results in his telling more stories, more loudly.

I have concluded that critical thinking skills are far less important to the operation of a small business than a marketable skill and self-delusion.

I imagine that if the Rs accused President Obama of being a drug dealer, and having someone killed, it would be immediately assumed because he is black.

Except of course, as you know, they did this to Bill Clinton.

People forget how dreadfully mean they were to him. How mean they were to Hillary and Chelsea.

They spent tens of millions and countless time and energy investigating him, until they dug up Lewinski - basically it was 7 years of this Fast and Furious BS. Jesus, the investigated the darn pet cat's fan mail and christmas lists, and that is not a lie.

This is what they do - if it were Al Gore, John Kerry, Howard Dean, Hillary Clinton, it would not matter.

In fact, part of why I supposed President Obama, is that he is such a nice and exceptionally cool guy, that I held out hope they would not be as nuts as they normally would be, but alas, they are ...

Wed Jun 27, 2012, 12:16 PM

when it's a much better return on investment simply to give the money to Republicans for yet another tax cut?

If tax cuts for the highest earners actually worked, shouldn't the Bush tax cuts have inaugerated a new golden age of economic stability, security and growth?

Why cut taxes for people who have already arrived? What they do with their money is to give it to smart folks on Wall Street who shuffle it around so that it makes more money without actually contributing to the real economy.

If the economy is so bad, why are corporate profits and balance sheets the best in history?

I don't suspect I'll get a logical or even a competent answer, but it's fun to ask.

Joseph Stiglitz kind of put in layman's terms why tax cuts are their canard du jour . . . any wealthy person with wealth will gravitate their assets to where they AREN'T taxed, whether it's Profit over hiring or short-term speculation as opposed to long-term growth.

Repub investors/businesspeople are all about "rent-seeking" activity because they're encouraged to be. With regulation whittled and Top Marginal Tax Rates at constant 75+ year lows, they're not going to invest in their businesses. They're making a profit without those pesky "hiring" or "putting the wealth back in their businesses" things, and they can sell this sham to the useful idiots they're firing by making them sniff Horatio Alger Cocaine. It's FLAWLESS!

If the adoption of wage-lowering, anti-union, let's-send-jobs-to-foreign-countries "free-trade" agreements is not good for the American working class, why should any person other than a Republican be in favor of adopting so-called "free-trade" agreements?
