Although my degree was in psychology, it doesn't take a professional to see that Trump has some serious cognitive problems. All one has to do is take the known data which he has admitted to, along with his public performances, and anyone can see that he is seriously dysfunctional. He admits to having only 1 to 4 hours of sleep on average per night. This in itself would create cognitive impairment, especially for someone who is 70 years old. Add to this the hair growth hormone he is taking and you have more chemically-induced cognitive dysfunction taking place. Then there is the matter of his "word salad" performance at the Thursday news conference. One can easily see that he is unable to string together a simple sentence without wandering off into la la land making no sense whatsoever. There were times where I think even he didn't know what he was saying.
Whatever the diagnosis one wishes to assign to Trump's behavior doesn't really matter. What does matter is he has poor impulse control (he called for the news conference without notice), cognitive dysfunction and the inability to construct a cohesive statement without losing track of what he is saying. In the end, this is a serious problem for all of us, not just Republicans. To invoke the 25th Amendment would, I think, require Trump be examined by a panel of health specialists to include a group of psychiatrists. A blood panel indicating what drugs he is taking (besides the hair growth hormone) would also help. But who has the power to require him to be examined by a group of health professionals? No one. And we don't have the ability to call for a vote of no confidence to put an end to this catastrophic event unraveling before us. Eventually Trump has the potential of completely losing it and then what? Captain Queeq (The Caine Mutiny) broke down only after the defense attorney applied enough pressure to make the break down happen. Will these press conferences be the equivalent in creating the conditions for Trump to break down before our eyes? What a situation that would be. Time is working against Trump so I will go on record with the prediction that he is only going to deteriorate further until the day comes when someone has to do something. Lotsa' luck on that one.

(31,517 posts)and I can generally spot when a man is telling a whopper. Those signs are written all over DT. The eye movements, the body language, the defensiveness, it's all there. He strikes me as a person who would lie to you even when he would be better served by the truth. He will continue to lie even when he knows that you know he's lying.
