(4,835 posts)There's another election in 2 years, everyone needs to stay in 'resist' mode.
There are all sorts of groups forming...time to work on 2018.

(14,564 posts)Every patriotic American needs to refer to them as such 100% of the time.
They enabled his rise through decades of gaslighting their "base", got behind him when he got the nomination and now are protecting him out of crazed partis an ship.
They need to be made to own it.

(17,235 posts)The world can't put up with 4 years of his chaos and republiCONs will be forced to act. The media and the people will keep up the pressure for his ouster.

(5,499 posts)Removing a president is very difficult, by design. At this point it would cause more unrest and increase levels of distrust among those who support him. They would double down.
As sad as it is, I think the only way to gain with this crowd is to let the extremist positions fail. Look at how Kansas has practically fallen apart under extreme conservative policies.
I know, i know, anyone who is not a white male is going to get the shaft.
But each time 45 gets stopped, either legislatively or legally, he is going to go public to his supporters and say, I'm trying to help you but the system is rigged against us. This is his strategy. He will ride it out to the end, albeit, the bitter end.

(68,578 posts)I have my doubts that he will last four years.

(5,499 posts)Those are two different questions. And what's the plan to deal with the fall out?
MrScorpio
(73,631 posts)He's the inspiration to depose as many GOPrs as possible.
Demsrule86
(68,578 posts)I guess the suffering of those he is coming out against is meaningless to you...those who are poor,LGBTQ, Women's rights and immigrants to name a few. Trump is a disaster who is not doubt planning on invading someone right now .
NCTraveler
(30,481 posts)Pence will be so much better for the poor, LGBTQ, women's rights and immigrants?
Trump is damaging Republicans and conservatism. He is building progressive momentum. Your thought that Pence will be more kind to the groups you mention is completely inaccurate.
Demsrule86
(68,578 posts)There are no good choices...but Trump needs to go. He is very dangerous...I really believe our Republic is at risk.
NCTraveler
(30,481 posts)He would probably even get more done with Ryan by staying on message, hurting said groups even more. Neither will provide any positive results. We do have some benefits from Trump.
I want to see Trump impeached. It's not because Pence would be better. In any way.
Demsrule86
(68,578 posts)if we take the house in 18 or the Senate, we will stop them so that should be our priority. Now Trump is a madman who just might use nukes...I don't think Pence would. Nor, do I think he would support Russian and destroy NATO or start a new war. It is the Russian roulette in a sense...but Trump is crazy. Plus Trump has supporters...I doubt Pence does.

(37,748 posts)What specifically leads you to believe Pence is less dangerous to the minority and LGBT communities than Trump?
Demsrule86
(68,578 posts)a Russian troll like Trump. Putin will march through Eastern Europe if Trump continues as president in my opinion. Trump is a danger to the world...we will get the same Pence shit with Trump and all the foreign policy goofs...and most likely a war.
starshine00
(531 posts)however Trump is a huge threat to the US foreign policy wise and in fifteen years I don't want to be reading about some other ethnic minority being genocided and their women being serially raped like the Yazidi by ISIS because of that stupid debacle of the Iraq war that Bush got us into. It is an awful position to have to take, I hate the thought of Pence getting the white house but Trump is scaring the entire world.
MrScorpio
(73,631 posts)We're ALL fucked and he's dug in there like a tick.
But that doesn't mean that he's not going to be the inspiration to resist and organize.
And let's not disregard the fact that's he super incompetent, which means that out of all the possible GOPr alternatives, he's the most lazy, distracted and incompetent.
Demsrule86
(68,578 posts)but with no avenue of power and a kkk guy in charge of voting rights, gerrymandering...it is an uphill climb. I would far rather have head President Clinton.
Demsrule86
(68,578 posts)and have marched and protested...but historically...far left does arise from the far right...hope it happens...but in the meantime many will be injured and die...and no movement is worth that; we should have elected Clinton and worked from within ...I hope people like Susan Sarandon never have a peaceful nights sleep ever.

(35,292 posts)We deserve it
2018 will tell A LOT about this country, in fact this
November will say a lot.
We need to see BIG gains in municipal elections, not just small, but BIG.
Then, a complete turnover in 2018.

(531 posts)And if the republicans want to keep their seats in congress my feeling is they are going to have to get on board and do something about this. I don't think their constituents voted for an America that gets cozy with Russia.

(22,165 posts).... as long as his "fan base" is behind him, they will do nothing to stop his reign of crazy.
if 45 loses the support of his 'fan base' they will act ... but not until then

(531 posts)Fox is being critical of him. Fox is the mouthpiece of the GOP and with them coming down on Trump here and there it can be assumed it is because they are being told to...it certainly is not because they are independent journalists on a quest for truth.
kcr
(15,317 posts)They'd be smarter to dump him in the long run at this point, but they won't. They really got themselves into a pickle with Trump. It's hard to get rid of a president. Just how much damage depends on 2018. We can't screw this up.

Having said that, their districts are so gerrymandered that donnie will have to literally nuke kansas city before his approvals drop in those districts.
So you're probably right.
