The Cop (who also dressed as a Naval officer) and lead singer is Victor Willis.

From the Village People Wiki page, the original "macho types who must dance and have a moustache" were:

Felipe Rose: the Indian
Alex Briley: the Soldier
Mark Mussler: the Carpenter
Dave Forrest: the Cowboy
Glenn Hughes: the Leatherman

Mark Mussler was replaced by David Hodo as the Carpenter
Dave Forrest was replaced by Randy Jones as the Cowboy

The ship in this video...



was played by a real ship, and the sailors you see very brief glimpses of were her crew.

One of my many friends from Milwaukee, who is Black, says she and her friends call him this, among other things not so nice. He's barking mad too!
