Partizan Belgrades Everton Luiz played an entire soccer game against Rad Belgrade on Sunday as rival fans hurled racist chants and remarks at him.
Luiz, a Brazilian player who joined the Serbia team last year, was subjected to vicious monkey chants, racist remarks and even a banner bearing an insulting message, The Associated Press reported Monday. The banner was only removed when a referee forced the fans to take it down.
At the end of the game, Luiz made a crude gesture toward the fans who had been tormenting him, which caused some Rad players to confront him and a brawl to break out, according to the BBC and video footage on YouTube. Luiz was in tears as he walked off the left the field, telling reporters that he had endured racist abuse during the entire match. Rad lost to Partizan 0-1.
Reuters news agency reported on Monday that the the Serbian Football Association had temporarily suspended Rad from playing in its home stadium due to the fans monkey chants directed toward Luiz.

White supremacy, privilege, are real and threatening institutions. White folks across the globe, most, not all, are racist.
White folks, most, not all, dont want to give up their privilege, which is stronger in some places than others, VERY strong in America, for instance.
In America it is now not safe to be not white. To be not white in America now is like holding a sign that says "I am inferior to you and you can push me around if you want if you are white"

(505 posts)I don't know, it just seems like soccer fans have a higher probability to be assholes.
Monkey chanting happened during German soccer matches on a few occasions, too. In response, soccer players and fans started publicly eating bananas as a sign of protest... Which is weird, too.
So I blame soccer. Also, there's not even a single openly gay soccer player in the German 1. Bundesliga => dozens of closeted gay players because some/many soccer fans suck.

World and European champions on the football pitch, but blighted by "endemic" racism in the stands.
For the second week in a row, Spain is facing up to allegations of racist abusive chanting from supporters inside its football stadiums.
Last week it was Dani Alves who took a bite out of a banana hurled towards him by a fan during Barcelona's match at Villarreal, while Sunday Levante's Papakouli Diop opted to dance in front of his abusers during a match against Atletico Madrid, who will compete in this season's UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid later in May.
"I was going to take a corner and some of the Atletico fans started making monkey chants," the Senegalese told reporters after Levante sealed a 2-0 win over the La Liga leaders.
"I don't have anything against Atletico's fans," he added. "It was just a part of them who did that to me and I wanted to explain that so people can know what happened.
"This monkey chants towards black players have to stop. And that's all."
