Trump Blames SEALs Death On Military: They Lost Ryan

President Donald Trump on Tuesday dodged responsibility for a botched mission he ordered in Yemen last month, placing the onus on the military and Barack Obama’s administration instead.

Bill Owens, the father of Chief Petty Officer William “Ryan” Owens, the Navy SEAL who died in the operation, demanded an investigation into his son’s death over the weekend. Owens further revealed he couldn’t bear to meet Trump at the airport as Ryan’s casket was carried off the military plane last month.

Asked about the matter during an interview with Fox News’ “Fox ‘n’ Friends,” Trump repeatedly said “they” were responsible for the outcome of the mission, in reference to the military.

“This was a mission that was started before I got here. This was something they wanted to do,” he said. “They came to me, they explained what they wanted to do ― the generals ― who are very respected, my generals are the most respected that we’ve had in many decades, I believe. And they lost Ryan.

“I can understand people saying that. I’d feel ― ‘What’s worse?’ There’s nothing worse,” he added. “This was something that they were looking at for a long time doing, and according to Defense Secretary Jim Mattis it was a very successful mission. They got tremendous amounts of information.”

presidents throughout history have had missions go awry, you simply say it's a tragedy and extend condolences and declare the fallen heroes. no need to throw anyone under the bus.

Someone out there knows who is the youngest person of flag rank; that is, who made general or admiral the fastest. I'm not going to look it up, but wouldn't you suppose that a general or admiral has been in for thirty years minimum, give or take? Which means Reagan or Bush was in office when he showed up for ROTC or OCS, maybe Clinton for the youngest of the lot.

How this makes them "my" generals, I cannot begin to imagine.

As I was told about a hundred years ago in boot camp, you can delegate authority, but you can't delegate responsibility. This is a lesson that will be written in blood. It won't be *****'s blood either.

That narcissist in chief thinks that he's oh so much smarter than everyone else and that cost the lives of all those people, some just children and babies. It cost the life of this brave soldier who did his duty, TRUSTING that his CIC knew what he was doing, and the fact is that his CIC Trump didn't have a flocking clue but ran with a crappy plan anyway... pfft!

Trump is a classic narcissist and bully who will never accept that anything is his fault. The fault will always lie with someone else and he will deflect, project and lie until the day he dies. What we're already seeing is that this type of attitude doesn't attract or keep loyal people once they figure out that they could be the next one thrown under the bus by the Blamer in Chief.

On 21 April, in a State Department press conference, President Kennedy said: "There's an old saying that victory has a hundred fathers and defeat is an orphan ... Further statements, detailed discussions, are not to conceal responsibility because I'm the responsible officer of the Government ..."[160]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bay_of_Pigs_Invasion#Kennedy.27s_operational_approval

This was a much larger, CIA planned action that Eisenhower had approved funding for developing the plan. Yet, decisions to go ahead with things are made by the President -- and when they go wrong, they need to take responsibility.

With Trump, he has even exaggerated what Obama did -- and he somehow seems to suggest that "his generals" are completely seperate from the generals in place on January 19!

There are certain things that you just don't do. And this is one of them. It seems like Trump has developed an expertise at doing things that are not ever done. He seems to be getting away with them. But I think that the damage is incremental and slow. His approval ratings are going to continue to go down and down and down and down.

I would like to ask a nephew of mine, whom I know voted for Trump, what he thinks of this latest out rage. He has already expressed some discomfort with the notion of repealing Obamacare without a replacement. I wonder what he feels when their commander-in-chief of our military blames I casualty on the military itself.

Once you have offended the intelligence community and the military you've subtracted a sizable chunk a his base. Can he then recover? He's somehow remained unscathed when he's done other things that just aren't done.

Unfortunately, we'll have to wait and see.

According to an anonymous official speaking to NBC News, the president ordered the raid after being told by Defense Secretary James Mattis and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Joseph Dunford that it would be a “game changer” if the raid was successful. Trump was also told that his predecessor, Barack Obama, would not have been “bold enough” to make the move, prompting the president to take action.
