If your Senator is not on the list, you might want to fax your appreciation.

And perhaps send Frank your appreciation.

(9,313 posts)If they print faxes out they get looked at when they're taken off machine. And a nice stack of them makes an impression. .
Emails and calls get counted.
One way or another, numbers matter.
Staffers talk -- and some have a lot of influene. Would be nice if conversations between Al's and Amy's could be something like "Heard from lots of people happy about Al's vote on Ross. People are watching like they never have before. Must be even more important to them than we realized."."Yeah, Sure looks that way. And Amy has really pissed them off."

(9,313 posts)In 2013 Dems went "nuclear" to eliminate the 3/5ths requirement for cloture on executive nominees and federal judges, but 3/5ths is still required to send Supreme Court nominee to the floor. And if 41 of them aren't able to unite and block every single DT SCOTUS nominee, they are hopeless.
It sickens me to see so many voting for confirmation of someone like Ross.
--- W L Ross Rant Warning ---
One thing about Ross that I don't think has gotten much attention is that he bought American Home Mortgage Servicing in 2007. As "servicer" for countless mortgage-backed securities trusts, Wilbur Ross's AHMS! pushed through countless foreclosures with forged documents (In addition to foreclosing when they didn't have possession of promissory notes, AHMS was behind the infamous "Linda Green" forged assignments of mortgage.)
As if defrauding courts and homeowners wasn't enough, Wilbur Ross's AHMSI pushed people into foreclosure when the circumstances clearly offered other options that would have kept people in their homes and limited losses for mortgage-backed securities holders.
Why push people into foreclosure instead of working with them? Well, because AHMSI reaped more in "special servicing" fees when they illegally forced homeowners foreclosure than they did when they worked out new terms that kept them in their homes and preserved profits (albeit a little less profit).
It would not surprise me if an analysis found that more than a quarter of the foreclosures in the "meltdown" would have been avoided if entities like W L Ross & Co had conducted business in a manner consistent with the minimum standards of mortgage banking. And that could have tipped the balance and kept the financial system from going over the cliff.
Fucking Wilbur Ross plays a prominent roll in bringing down the entire financial system and then becomes commerce secretary. There are no words.

(30,613 posts)I know you don't believe that, but our "Dems" in the Senate seem to. It's horrifying. Do they not get that taking a moral position is a moral act, even if you lose? Do they not get that every vote sends a message to voters? Voting with the Reputins sends the message to constituents "I won't support you, so don't bother supporting me."

(68,637 posts)But the reality is I will not beat up Democrats who vote for something they could never stop...I would remind you that Ohio went double digits for Trump and Sherrod Brown is up in 18...there will be at least 100 million put up against him by the Koch Brothers...why take a risk on a vote you can't win?
lagomorph777
(30,613 posts)(1) The base will get dejected and stay home.
(2) Trump will have one more victory in his campaign to hand America over to Putin.
And guess what: the right-wingers will not be impressed by weakness. They will see it as one more reason to continue to vote against Dems.
Demsrule86
(68,637 posts)for something that would pass either way...then there is no hope...they are unrealistic and don't understand how to win...and I am the Democratic base so...I am sure most understand reality...if you are talking about unrealistic BOB'er types...I don't expect anything from them anyway.

(9,313 posts)But those are the only ones he's voted Yea on so far. I think Sanders fucked up on Kelly, but IMO, voting for Ross is a far bigger mistake.
As for the other two, they were more "run of the mill" Repub-type picks that wouldn't normally garner much opposition -- and they didn't (Shulkin 100/0, Mattis 98/1).
Gillibrand has been the best by far. The only nominee she voted for is Shulkin.
Demsrule86
(68,637 posts)is not possible to stop them...Ohio went for Trump by 10 points...and Brown is up for re-election in 18...reality bites but losing is worse.

(68,637 posts)Enjoy the circular firing squad. I want to no part of it...then in 18, when the GOP wins and really goes after the stuff they really want because our guys were not good enough ...you all can wring your hands and say Democrats didn't fight hard enough... a little support for our people would help a great deal...this vote was meaningless in that we were bound to lose it. We have a national emergency here people...either we fight in a way that helps us get elected or we have a purity test for our people and let the GOP continue to win every damn thing.

(972 posts)Brown's state went convincingly for Trump. He won it by the largest margin of any candidate since George HW Bush in 1988. Assuming Trump doesn't implode he's going to face a tough fight in 2018. If the state voters still back Trump what message is he going to have? That he opposed Trump every step along the way? How's that going to work out? He has to chose his battles wisely.
I know a lot of people aren't going to want to hear that but that is the political reality. Now if Trump's support in the state collapses I expect him to fight him on more issues. But now he has to pick his battles.

(68,637 posts)18 and I pray we won't...it will be because people wanted purity more than a win...and I will say that there is one on this thread who has lately enjoyed another website.
