Christopher Steele, the former MI6 agent who compiled a controversial dossier on behalf of Donald Trump’s opponents alleging links between the billionaire and Russia, has reportedly been asked to testify before the Senate’s investigation.

His unverified report claimed Trump associates colluded with the Kremlin’s cyberattacks on Democrats and that Russian spies held compromising information on the Republican candidate.

He has been in hiding ever since details of the dossier emerged. However, Democrats have informally approached him to give evidence to the Senate’s Intelligence Committee, according to the Washington Post. He has yet to respond.

Democrats and some Republicans in Congress are exploring the possibility of arranging discreet meetings with the former spy in the UK or on other neutral territory, the Independent reported.

The Senate should take his testimony overseas, somewhere safe.
