Enjoy your polluted great lakes and poison drinking water Trump voters!

(8,964 posts)I can only conclude that successful efforts such as the restoration of Lake Erie are now perceived as unprincipled government over reach by the Bannon-Miller administration.

(2,769 posts)I don't live anywhere near those fucking lakes. I get ZERO benefit from them being clean and safe and ready for the enjoyment of you guys during summers and you know what, YOU... KNOW.. WHAT. I don't want to see it happen but it's going to thanks to your votes. Still I feel sorry for what's about to happen. It shouldn't be happening but it's going down and you brought it on yourself. They have been coming to jack your environment up for years and years and now they have the power to do it. Cuyahoga River will be a footnote once it's all over thanks to that wall you guys wanted on the southern border.
Good Luck
Welcome to Flint

(1,148 posts)I live in Illinois. I live ten miles from Lake Michigan. Minnesota and New York are Great Lakes states, too. Moreover, Dems tend to live near the water, like they do in Indiana, which is otherwise a red state. It's the people who don't live near them that don't give a shit.

(2,444 posts)So, please don't alienate the voters in these states who agree with you. I am just as pissed about what is happening as you.

(2,769 posts)I feel bad for everybody out there because what's going to happen is bullshit. The Republican platform has been trying to do this for years and now that they can, they are, completely without compunction. However, while I feel equally as bad for everybody I do have some real animosity for the people that have, and continue to vote for the people that are going to do this to them.
For you folks that saw it coming, you don't need to be welcomed to Flint. You knew it was coming and voted in a fashion that took the environment into consideration and the eventual outcome of voting for the bus driver that likes to frequent toxic waste dumps.

(54 posts)Support for the Great Lakes isn't just about the environment. People that live there will be pissed about this for many different reasons.

(5,240 posts)that 45 would cut funding to the great lakes cleanup would have changed a drumf voters mind about voting for him.
dancePop
(54 posts)But, that doesn't mean they won't be disappointed in him for cutting funding for the Great Lakes.
My feeling is that these things will add up over time. And, they will eventually learn that they've been conned.

(2,396 posts)Even if they don't live waterside, it seems that there would be a lot of trump voters who recreate there camping, fishing etc. I hope they are kicking their own asses right now.
Plus a bunch of jobs are going to be lost via the ripple effect.

(14,532 posts)Trump wants SC tax payers to pay for the clean up at his waste site in North Charleston, SC. The state regulators said no. 2 Days later he paid a visit to the Boing plant in Charleston.

(45,457 posts)when the shipping, fishing, and other industries are affected, they will just blame immigrants and call it a day.
Of course this will be billed as rolling back job killing regulations. The fact that jobs will be killed by this won't make a lick of difference.
CNN/Money has an interesting article about rust belt Trumpers who are wondering when Trump will create some jobs there:

(19,253 posts)And the multi-billion dollar sport and commercial fishing industry dies an ugly death, I hope those outdoors men and women think about this.
Gonna be a lot of shuttered diners and bait shops in a thousand little towns, and poor, sick Americans as far as the eye can see....
