How does the ACA affect we who are on SSI/disabled, if at all?

I am on Medicaid as a result of being disabled and on SSI. It's really important to me, and surely changed my life, so I'm just wondering if the new law will impact my situation at all. I'm in Florida, so I doubt we'll see any expansion, but beyond that.

My mom heard somewhere that they're "taking my healthcare away," so I need to reassure her about that, besides. Oy.

Medicaid funds will be INCREASED, unless your state has opted out, which they are allowed to do. Honeycombe8 Jun 2012 #1

I don't know if Florida has opted out. You can Google that. I wouldn't be surprised if it has.

If FL has opted out, nothing should change. Unfortunately. Your Medicaid funding from the fed remains the same. Unless your state has done some things separately that affects it, but that is not the ACA that is doing that.

Repeat: The ACA INCREASES Medicaid funds to states, unless they opt out.

The ACA has nothing to do with SSI, that I've heard of, so has no effect on that, as far as I know.

but you might tell your mom that, if you were not in Florida, your coverage might have improved (assuming Florida opts out.)
