Otherwise, ad placement provides revenue to keep the site running.

Or you can contribute, buy a star, and never see the ads when you are signed in.

(12,633 posts)They add revenue to DU, but come from an ad company that places ads by what is mentioned on the site, ignoring whether the mention is pro or con. If the ad is truly offensive, contact the site admin. Otherwise "buying a star" will relieve you of ads (except for the click-bait ones in the center).

There's an easy way to avoid seeing ads that disturb your DU experience, though. Just become a donor to DU.
