Obamacare replacement heads toward political disaster: What are GOP leaders thinking?

Obamacare “replacement” heads toward political disaster: What are GOP leaders thinking?
Moderates and right-wingers set to blame each other as health care bill offers more proof the GOP can't govern
Gary Legum, Salon Wednesday, Mar 8, 2017 10:15 AM CST

An interesting question about the Republicans’ rollout of their Obamacare repeal-and-replace plan was bubbling up among pundits and policy journalists on Tuesday. That question can be summed up this way: What the hell are GOP leaders doing?

The question stems from the very vocal opposition to the plan that sprang up the minute Republicans in the House released their bill on Monday night — not opposition from Democrats, which was to be expected. No, the loudest hostility came from Republican lawmakers, pundits and conservative-leaning think tanks like the Heritage Foundation, the Cato Institute and others.

Panic, intellectual dishonesty and partywide delusion have resulted in the GOP quite possibly screwing up its best chance to repeal the despised Obamacare. The law’s best hope, and the best hope for the health of millions of people, is that Republicans continue to be too dumb to realize that.

Republican politicians, especially Senators in blue and purple states walk a tightrope between pleasing the crazy base with craziness and not completely alienating the average general election voter. No way they want to destroy the healthcare system. So they let the House finally come up with a "plan" and rail against Obamacare and appeal to the base while making certain that it never passes . Moderates will blame the far right and the "Freedom Caucus" will somehow blame President Obama and Nancy Pelosi. But at the end of the day they won't have a train wreck on their hands come election time.

And ignore reality. As if they can manipulate EVERYONE to their madness and that EVERYONE will ignore facts and reality. It is one thing to spin and lie about an event that most of their base has no clue about. It is another to think that the media spin will make people forget their own personal suffering when they cant get medicine or when their loved ones die. Nothing is real to one dimensional people until it happens to them personally.

John Boehner said that in the 25 yrs he has been in Washington, he has never seen republicans agree on healthcare. But SUDDENLY they are going to make a miraculous plan that will appease everyone and be so fantastic! Really?!?!!! I guess Jesus Christ spoke to them and told them that it was ok to shit on the elderly and the poor. What good "christians"!

This is clearly what happens when you surround yourself with yes men. You lose reality and start to look and sound like the shit show that is happening in front of us.

They have lost their collective mind. They need leadership and McConnell/Ryan CLEARLY aint it....

There will be repercussions in 2018 and 2020 over this....

Paul Ryan is a failure. He's been writing budgets that can only be used to wipe someone's ass-- for YEARS.

He's been writing Obamacare repeal bills-- for YEARS, all of which go nowhere. He's failed at those.

He ran for Vice President-- and Failed, again.

To give him credit, Ryan is a SMOOTH TALKER. He can race right through a dandy sales pitch and present you with a smile, a contract and a pen before you can blink your eyes. Anyone watching the roll-out of his (and Bundy-loving Greg Walden's) Death Bomb on Tuesday can be mightily impressed by the window dressing. Admire the window dressing, because that's all he's selling.

"It's an act of mercy"? His and Walden's plan is an act of mercy? Please! The act of mercy would be for Ryan and Walden to be sent to the Malheur Wildlife Refuge for a winter camp-out. Walden, to be sure, could relate, since he's a Bundy sympathizer. You know, Ammon Bundy is of the same Bunch that believes that the federal government is illegitimate and has no authority. That's the same federal government that pays Walden's salary. But I digress...
