https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2017/mar/08/international-womens-day-2017-protests-activism-strike-live

"First Lady Melania Trump celebrated International Women’s Day with salsify and spinach gnocchi at a private luncheon at the White House.

And used in wine of a controlled name. Thus the designation appellation d'origine contrôlée , or AOC, which appears only on those products which conform to specific guidelines.

This California imitation cannot be labelled and sold in France as Viognier based, just as processed cheese cannot be labelled as Roquefort. It degrades the language. It should be labelled as Viognier-type, just as sparkling wine cannot be called Champagne.

I'm very well aware of the difference between a varietal and an AOC. Viognier is the varietal, such as pinot noir or chardonnay. Condrieu or Château-Grillet are AOCs made with Viognier grapes.

It's nothing new for the WH and first lady, specifically to take advantage of these kinds of events. The handlers at this WH are probably under unique pressure and will try to get some kind of news that some fans will read as positive. Any possible distraction is their friend.

There is a percentage that needs to be government employees to pass costs to tax payers. It may pass that law with Betsy and a few others there. Pence and Melanie don't count in the numbers. I am unsure how ivanka is paid. She may work for free like her father so I'm not sure how she's counted.

Eric makes Viognier - not overly good Viognier, but Viognier nonetheless - at his winery, and the Deplorables will probably think "Pride Mountain" is some sort of gay thing. (It's the name of the family who founded the winery, but when did facts ever matter to that bunch?) I believe Mr. Trump will skip his weekly Mar-a-Lago excursion to go to Manhattan and scream at his spouse.

Besides, I can think of far more appropriate wines for a luncheon featuring the first president's wife to refuse to live in the White House, and the wineries who make them will happily package them in an attractive 55-gallon drum. In the wine trade, we refer to this sort of packaging as "the single-serving size."
