When Nordstrom department store dropped Ivanka Trump's clothing line in February, the White House's objections drew fire for blurring the line between government and business.
The responses a tweet by President Donald Trump and an unusual TV appearance by adviser Kellyanne Conway alarmed Trump's ethics lawyer enough to swiftly huddle with the federal ethics office, which has tangled with the Trump White House, according to new emails obtained by NBC News.
After Nordstrom's decision was announced, Trump lashed out in a Feb. 8 morning tweet, "My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by Nordstrom. She is a great person -- always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!"
By 3:56 p.m. that day, the top lawyer at the Office of Government Ethics, David Apol, asked Trump's White House ethics lawyer for a phone call to discuss "an issue that has come up."
Records show Trump's lawyer, Stefan Passantino, called the ethics office five minutes later. A summary of their discussion is now public for the first time.

(42,641 posts)Why would anyone expect that a family of thieves, well dressed thieves, but still thieves, but why would anyone expect these thieves to be concerned with ethics?

(8,361 posts)anyone who really needed help would believe him. There was so much to indicate he was a con man. The phony college took money from people trying to make a better life, not millionaires. The people who he said he would help he screwed as a private citizen but the voters went for him anyway, I will never understand it. Trump and his family and entourage have no ethics and they're just getting started.

(5,813 posts)that tRump has promoted so blatantly. The idea that he is a successful businessman and that he will make them rich and successful, too, was too appealing to reject. They just refused to look at or listen to anything that conflicted with the image tRump wanted them to believe. The information about tRump was available. The terrible business practices, a personal life that reads like a cheap romance novel and plenty of video footage that capture his views on women were all out there if anyone cared to look at it. We know because we read it or saw the videos. But the dedicated followers were enchanted by the big changes he promised to bring to the government and to them personally.
He knew what they wanted to hear and he gave them heaping servings every time he had a rally or a microphone. And it worked. Confirmation bias allowed them to hear his message and reject anything else that conflicted with that. He knew that and exploited it fully.

(8,361 posts)needed it or felt he needed it. I think you're right, because the truth is there was a lot of damaging information on him. I pointed out the phony college since it was apparent with the lawsuit they created a fraud. There was no ambiguity about that fraud but like you described and very well, they believed the marketing schemes instead.

(725 posts)the right thing on his own? Does he need his daughter to constantly tell him not to do the wrong thing? I guess they haven't been communicating for a long time!!!!!!
